Getting accepted into a nursing program in Houston TX

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am in the process of applying to several nursing programs in the Houston Texas area. I am right now preparing to take both the TEAS and HESI as certain schools accept one but not the other. I am applying for a spring 2016 start date. My question is regarding GPA. I currently have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 3.75 Science GPA. I have already retaken the maximum of courses eligible to re-take so I am at the end of the rope on regarding any hopes of raising my cumulative 3.2. I am preparing and studying hard for the HESI and TEAS as I am aware acceptance into a university also depends on that.

Basically I need an honest opinion; do I stand a chance of being accepted with my current GPA's? I really would prefer a BSN program, but I am also applying to some ADN programs as well. The applicant/acceptance rate into all nursing programs in Houston and maybe everywhere is extremely competitive, so honestly from anyone out there, I would appreciate any feedback and constructive criticism to aide me along right now.

Please and thank you

You've done a great job of investigating the Houston educational environment. It remains very competitive, with no let-up anticipated in the near future. If you can ace those standardized tests, it will improve your chances but GPA is still the most heavily weighted admission criteria overall. Maybe you'll get lucky and end up with a 'weaker' applicant cohort (with lower GPAs) - fingers crossed!!

Best of luck to you in your educational journey.
