Georgia State Nursing Spring 2016

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi! I'm applying to Georgia State University's ACE Track for Spring 2016. Anyone else out there also applying? :)

Hey I'm applying for spring 2016 too! I am applying for traditional though.

Yay, finally someone replied! lol Have you spoken to anyone in the nursing department yet? I have an appointment tomorrow about my chances of getting in.

I've spoken to the nursing advisor (Hugh Grant...I think). He printed out a paper with all the classes I have taken and took a look at my gpa & science gpa. He said I do have a good chance if I keep it up. I haven't taken the TEAS test though, have you?

Yep, I took the TEAS...and I did pretty bad in my opinion. I'm conflicted because my GPA is a 4.26 and I have a 4.3 science GPA, but I got an 84.7 on the TEAS (I hate standardized testing). I'm not sure if I should take the TEAS again because I know some people who get into ACE have much higher scores. But i'm going to talk to Hugh Grant tomorrow to see if my higher GPA can neutralize my lower TEAS score. Let me know if you have any questions about the TEAS though!

I have a ton of question!

What was the science section like?

What did you use to study?

Those are the only ones I can think of right now.

But I think it should because I have heard of people getting into ACE with a 76 TEAS score plus your gpa is great too! Did you finish all of your pre reqs?

He told me I have good chances for both ACE & traditional & my gpas are lower, I have a 4.0 both gsu and science gpa

I used the ATI Study Manual and the McGraw Hill 5 Practice Tests to study for the TEAS. Looking back, I feel like the McGraw Hill was a waste of money. I really don't recommend it. The best resource you can ever use for this test is the ATI Manual; a lot of people say that it doesn't always cover everything on the actual test, but I disagree -- for me, everything was covered. I studied for about 2 weeks, so I think if I would have given myself more time, I would have scored a lot higher.

The science section was of course more broad, but if you google/youtube everything in the book and learn a few more steps beyond what is written in the book, you should do great. There is no topic that the book doesn't cover on the real test. The math I thought was actually a lot harder than the book. My test had a lot of word problems that I wasn't used to while studying. But then again, math isn't my best subject. For reading, I mostly ran out of time...the passages take a lot longer to read and comprehend and then they also have a bit of math towards the end, which is really annoying. The english, I thought, was the easiest section. Even easier than the practice tests at the end of the ATI Manual and very close to what the book taught. I also recommend buying the online tests from ATI, at least one of them. I scored an 83.3 on form A, which is very close to my real score of 84.7. It is an excellent example of the real test.

Your gpa should defintley get you into traditional, even if you get a lower TEAS score lol. I haven't taken Chem 2, Ab Psych, Micro Lab, and a couple of Area C courses yet, but that's my schedule for this fall, so besides that, i've taken all my other pre-reqs and core classes. Have you taken those classes yet?

Math is m worst subject! I have the ATI book, one of my old SI leaders gave it to me. I am taking summer classes so I haven't looked at it yet. I am currently taking A&P 2 in the summer. I plan on taking the TEAS in August.

In the fall I'm taking Micro & Micro Lab, Ab Psych, Nurs 2010 (Growth & development, I think), and I might take SNHP 3000 (communication & diversity) but I might drop it since I can just take it after I (hopefully) get into the nursing program.

Area C is humanities, right? If you want easy classes, you should def take thea2040 with prof. Lamb. You don't need the book. You could read the play summaries online and listen to her talk about the play and make an A on all the tests. She lets you use a cheat sheet on the tests. Her tests are from her powerpoints.

Do you have Borek for A&P 2 this summer? I had her for A&P 1 and she was pretty hard, so I took Chapman for A&P 2. What time is your Micro Lab and Ab Psych class?

I took Nurs 2010 and SNHP 3000 last fall. SNHP 3000 is a very easy A; almost everyone gets an A in that class. All you have to do is a group project, an interview paper for a person of a different culture, and 2 online quizzes. Nurs 2010 is pretty hard though; I had Eastman. If the class wasn't online, I don't think I would have done well. You definitely have to read the book word-for-word and all the powerpoints to do well; she tests over the tiniest details. We had 5 major quizzes with 25 questions and one minute per question, which is why it's so hard. There were also many small assignments and a huge group project, which is difficult with an online class.

I wanted to take that theatre class, but it is at the same time as my Chem 2 class :/ so I am talking MuA 1930 online instead.

Yes! I had Borek for A&P1 & now A&P 2. I love Borek though! Imagine taking Ross :dead:

Psych: TR 9:30 am-10:45 I've heard that the prof. (Cohen) is pretty hard and tests on details but I hate staying on campus since I have to commute so I decided to go for it anyways.

Micro Lab: MW 11 am-12:30

I have Eastman too & I'm scared based on what I've heard.Since it's online, is there a specific time that you have to be online? I have not taken an online class yet. Did you sell your book yet? If not, can I buy it off of you?

Who are you taking for Chem 2? And is it 1152?

Haha, yeah Ross would have been a lot harder. I liked Borek, too, but she was kind of all over the place for me. I still did well in her class, despite that; I like that she gives tons of extra credit.

I have Ab Psych with Schmidt on TR 1:00-2:15. I haven't heard much about her though, but I really like the subject so i'm looking forward to the class. I commute also, from Lawrenceville, so it's hard to get the good teachers. I have Micro Lab TR 5:30-6:30/7. Not the best timing, but i'm trying to keep all my classes TR.

Unfortunately, I rented my book so I don't have it, sorry :/ But, nope, you don't have to be online in a specific time for Nurs 2010, just have to keep up with the assignments and tests. She has everything on a calendar so as long as you keep up with that, you should be fine. The group project is all semester long, so while you're working on assignments/readings/tests, you also have to be working on the group project.

I'm taking Navaro-Eisenstein, she's the only Chem 1152K teacher teaching, so I kind of have no choice lol.

lol yes, Borek is VERY unorganized!!

I work on Lawrenceville Hwy, which isn't in Lawrenceville for some reason, it's in Tucker.

I had her for Chem 1152 and she loves the subject! The first part is like an intro to orgo, which was a little hard for me compared to the second part of the class, Biochem. The Biochem part was easy for me since I was taking A&P1 at the time, it's basic things like the macro-molecules and what they break down into.

She doesn't drop any tests but she does give extra credit and its odd because you won't know about it. She won't mention it at all. You'll just get your test back and see that you got a 66/60.
