frustrated with admissions to an ASN/BSN program (maryland) and need some advice

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone,

So here is my current situation: I graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with my BS. in Community Health. But I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.3. I've taken my prerequisites for nursing already and basically for all the sciences got straight C's. I have also taken my TEAS V test and got a Adjusted Individual Total Score of 68.7% and National Percentile Rank of 62; I do not think most programs will accept these scores, even for ASN programs (although I am not sure but just my guess.) Since I can remember, I have never been good at test taking and I do not know the problem; despite studying hard and knowing/learning everything required, I still do bad. I know/feel the likelihood of getting accepted into a BSN program are slim to none, so I have been looking into ASN programs around my area. Are there any programs that doesn't require TEAS/ tests? Anyhow, I also obtained my CNA to get a glimpse of the nursing world and feel compelled to stay in and pursue nursing as a career. If anyone has any suggestions they're willing to share, I will be grateful because I am feeling kind of stuck. Thank you in advance!

Are you only looking for a program in MD? I'm not sure how competitive their programs are, and their criteria, but there may be posters in the Maryland forum that may be able to help you with your question.

C's will most likely be an issue for most programs, especially in the sciences which are paramount to nursing. Possibly look into retaking them for a higher grad to be more competitive.

I am trying to stay open about that, I prefer the DC, MD, VA area due to convenience but I am willing to go elsewhere, except I don't know much about programs farther than the DMV area. And thanks! I will take a look in the MD forums and see what I can find.
