cheapest out of State tuition - please help

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey all!

I am an international student in the US and I want to apply to a Nursing school. Right now I am in California community college but I just can't afford the tuition anymore.

Do you have any suggestions where I could go?

A school which has a good nursing program and has an affordable out of state tuition.

I am very open to any state.

Please let me know your thoughts!!

Thank you!

I thought that California has the lowest Community College Tuition Rate in the USA. It stands to reason that also have the lowest Tuition & Fee rates for International Students, even when non-resident/Other fees are factored in. So you should be looking at roughly $260 per credit/unit, plus about $1,400 - $1,500 Health Insurance fee.

Thank you very much!

I am already paying 280 $ per credit at the community college.

My biggest worry is when I have to transfer to a University. UCLA for example would cost me about 40,000 $ per year on tuition only.

All the Cal States are about 28,000. Which is cheaper but still expensive to me.

Do you think the reputation of the school matters that much?? Will people really ask me later on in the hospital from which school i graduated?

Thank you very much!

I hope this post may explain what's important. Although your college sounds super cheap!!! Only $280 a credit hour!? Not sure you'll be able to do better than that as far as tuition goes...

Here's what I think is important in choosing a school:

1. Can you get into the program, is it severely competitive, does it have wait list? (If you live in California I cannot stress this point enough. Nursing school and jobs are EXTREMELY competitive there)

2. Is this school regionally accredited?

3. Are the NCLEX pass rates high? (The higher the better)

4. Is the price reasonable? (Usually private, for-profit schools can be outrageously expensive)

That is what I focus on. In nursing, the "name brand schools" do not matter. What matters is that you graduate, pass the NCLEX, and that you aren't in a ton of debt.
