Hey y'all!!

I have not even been notified of acceptance yet and I am anxious to find out. I will find out at the end of September apparently! So hopefully on the event I do get accepted does anyone who has been in or is in the RN program have tips, tricks or advice to prep for the program?! I heard some people say to start studying for the NCLEX now, is that true? If so how?

Hi! I would suggest reading Perry and Potter Fundamentals text as soon as you can. Also, you can possibly get the medication math text, if you want, just to have an idea that it's about before the first class. Don't focus on the horror stories that will be presented to you. Once you get accepted, don't waste time, grab your texts and practice! It's hard but it's also fun. Make friends who are also going to be in your cohort. Start study groups if you can. :)

Mariposa, do you know which chapters to start reading in the Fundamentals textbook? Also I heard about the first days' math test. Will this one be graded, or is it just to see where one stands? Thanks in advance!

It depends on the instructor, plus it's been over a year since I was in process. The math test has 2 attempts. Try to pass it the first time. It's okay if you don't, you have a second attempt, but if you don't pass, then you have to retake the class over.

do you remember what type of math questions are they going to give? I'm dealing out because I haven taken math in over a year! Like is it basic math or conversions?? Thank you!

Basic algebra. Math conversions. They give you a cheat sheet, but you can't use it on the test. It gets harder as you go through the program.

Process type questions are basic: 10mg ordered, available are vials of 5mg/ml. How many mls ordered?

As you go through the program then it becomes: Mr Gonzalez had a fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit. He weighs 205 lbs. Doc orders (specific mg of Med)mg. Available are vials that state (# mg/ml). Dosage is 50mg/kg. How many mls?

You'd have to convert from lbs to kilos and mg to mls. The temperature is there as clutter.

Very sad news. I was recently informed by my clinical instructor, who was extremely angry, that the program started with 180 students. Between theory, demo, and the exam, only 33 had passed, so far. She's the only GIGU instructor in Central was at the number of failures as I was. This is the umpteenth time that she's complained about how the program is run. Those entering, please study! I've never seen those numbers. 147 students failing before GIGU is unheard of. You guys can make it, but one thing, if a large majority in your class fail, don't ignore it, go as a group TOGETHER to the Dean and fight for it! I had to fight for a grade alone and that was a flop. After grades go in, people abandon each other. Don't. Fight for that grade, you worked your behinds off!
