Anatomy and Physiology help

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am taking a 12 week summer course over Anatomy and Physiology 1. I have heard it is the hardest pre req we have to take and on top of that i went to rate my professor and apparently she is a horrible teacher! I feel like I am going to have to teach myself! So basically does anyone know of some good A&P study web sites or extra books that would help a girl out?! Please and Thank you.

I agree with Scott Benson. I wouldn't spend extra money on study guides for this class, especially when there's such a wide diversity of free information. I have bought many study guides for classes out of fear that the class would be difficult or that I would need the extra help and all of it was a waste of money. Save your pennies- nursing school is expensive!

All good sites, but remember that the test material will (should) come directly from the assigned texts. Learn the information from the texts as much as you can, and only use the support materials when you can't make sense and internalize the content of your assigned text.

And OP, I thought you initial statement was most telling. Yes, you will have to teach yourself, and this a a GREAT skill to learn early early early. Often students complain that a teacher is not fair, a poor lecturer, plays favorites, etc. As another poster stated, this can be evident on professor rating sites. But those statements have an implied message that the learning is owned by the professor. Good learners know that the learning is theirs to own and that they will have to work for it if they want to claim it.

Developing a critical and discerning eye and logical thought process early as you begin your prerequisites will build your skills for learning to drink from a fire hose in nursing school.

Good luck to you!

Also remember to really understand what you are learning don't just memorize and dump the knowledge later. You will use it again! I know a lot of people who had that come back and bite them in the butt during nursing school. Also if your school does not require pathophysiology take it anyway it will help you later on immensely:) I also agree that YouTube has some great videos that help if you are a audio/visual learner.

I was going to take patho as an elective course cause it sounds really interesting. Is it just as hard as A&P though?

I always recommend the Anatomy Coloring Book and the Physiology Coloring Book, available with free two-day shipping from Amazon. Note it doesn't say "the PATHOphysiology Coloring Book," so why is it my first, best, and always recommendation?

Simple.

Most people don't think about (or remember) what normal physiology is...and if you don't have that down absolutely solid, derangements in physiology (that's what pathophysiology is) won't make sense to you either. Get the book and forget trying to short-cut. This is work, and you'll need to know it all the rest of your working life. The book will be ready to hand on your desk for the rest of your working life.
