Am I being selfish?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Here goes.....I am a mother of two beautiful girls (ages 2, and 7) and a wife to a wonderfully supportive husband. I have been plugging away at pre-requisites for a year now and should be done this coming summer. I have always loved the east coast (I am from Texas) and was planning on applying to several schools out there but I have been having second thoughts. Would it be selfish of me to uproot my family because I got accepted to an east coast school? My husband is all for it if that is what I want, but is it doable? I know DH would have to find a new job, the girls would have to go to new schools, and not to mention moving our stuff but to be honest we would be doing this anyway. I live 2 hours away from the nearest nursing program and I don't want to continue driving 4 hours a day M-F. Has anyone moved cross country (with a family) to attend school? Whatever decision I come to I know I do not want to start my nursing career in Texas.

My mom acts like I'm neglecting my kids by going to NS. I, however, do not agree. When I am done with school, I'll be able to get a good job and support them without anyone else's help. When they can start to have some of the things their friends have, I think the 2+ years of me being swamped with school will be forgotten!

Not selfish at all. You're very lucky that your husband supports that!
