Already discouraged

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey guys,

Well I'm almost done with my pre-reqs and will be applying to nursing schools in August. I feel so discouraged and don't feel good enough already. I have B's in micro anatomy physio, got an A in y stats class, A in English- those are the main pre-request right? I know it depends on the schools. I basically have B's, a couple A's and two C's in my overall classes. I've volunteered at my local hospital for about 2 years now and I'll be taking my TEAS in July. Do you guys think I even have a chance? I'm just really worried, I'm an anxious person; I know this is what I want to do; sometimes I read how people get perfect grades and it makes me want to completely give up.

If your school promotes service to the community, like mine does, 2 years volunteering will be a big plus as opposed to volunteering just the summer before applying to the nursing program.

Hardships and life experiences would be unpublished metrics, so we aren't privileged to all pieces of the acceptance puzzle.

Good luck.

Community College. I have teenagers that will be heading off to college sooner that I would like, so I needed to most cost effective route plus the shortest commute. I plan on getting my bachelors as soon as possible after I finish my associates degree.

I have people telling me "why are you going into nursing. You are crazy?" All because their life/job sucks doesn't mean mine will, and if this is truly what you want, then go after it. I have failed a nursing class at one time and came back and passed it the next time around. I am due to graduate soon and yes the classes have been hard and I study til I can't study anymore, but I still trudge on!! So can you!!! Don't be afraid to try something regardless of what other people say!!!

I have a 3.8 overall GPA and a 4.0 science GPA, BUT a girl from my school with a 2.9 GPA initially got in over me because of her TEAS score. I had a 68 and she had an 80. I got wait listed in December while on the other hand she got an acceptance letter (they just called me a few days ago to let me know a seat had become available, so I am accepted now.) So if your school is like mine and accepts people on a TEAS score basis, more so than a GPA basis, you won't have a problem so long as you can score exemplary or advanced (80-100). If it's not, honestly your grades aren't bad. The "worst" that would happen is they would put you on a wait list. That's better than being rejected! I know plenty of girls with grades like yours that have been accepted into point-based colleges. Especially since you have some volunteer medical work. With point-based schools there are usually plenty of ways to raise your points so that your GPA isn't an all determining factor.

Bottom line: You will eventually get in somewhere. You might have to apply to some out of the box places. My friend with grades just like yours (maybe even a little worse, I think she got a C in APII) got accepted to some place in Florida! Do not get discouraged, if this is really your calling, it might bother you for a long time if you turn your back on it! When I got wait listed I was extremely upset and discouraged too (like you, I am a very anxious person) but I couldn't possibly think of one other thing that I want to do with my life. Keep your head up and just know that you might have to wait, but it will happen. Not sure what your beliefs are, but if they're like mine, god has a plan for you, and just remind yourself everyday, "what is the hurry?" Best wishes. :cat:

I wouldn't know what I want to do in life either! Lol thank you so much for your response, I appreciate it; really motivated me! :) I totally agree with you, just have to be patient, the time will come for me when it's supposed to. Thank you!
