A&P 1 over the summer semester

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello fellow pre-nursing students!

I have only 3 pre-reqs left to take before I can apply to the ADN program at my school. I need A&P 1, A&P 2, and PSY 101. I am currently finishing up my microbiology course this spring semester 2015. I had planned on taking PSY101 this summer 2015, then A&P1 in the fall 2015 and A&P2 in the spring 2016. But with the way that my nursing school's admission program works, if I did it this way I would have to wait to apply for spring 2017, and I don't want to wait that long. I want to apply this year either for Spring 2016 or Fall 2016. I am more confident that I will be able to get accepted in Fall 2016 more than Spring 2016 but I still want to be able to apply. With that being said, I want to take A&P 1 this summer 2015. I work full time from 8:30a-5p (which is why I have only been taking one or two classes a semester since 2012) I already have all the books and supplies for the class because I originally was going to take it this semester but dropped it because it was too hard to take along with micro. So I plan on studying the systems and memorizing all the bones and muscles in my book before class starts in the summer so I can be ahead. Has anyone else done A&P in the summer semester? Just looking for some tips and advice on this class and anyone's experience with taking it in the summer semester.

Thanks!

I am not sure what the difference is in the summer time at your school, but there isn't any difference at mine. I think you're on the right track with learning the bones and muscles early. Why not take Psy 101 with A&P 2? I work full time too. I am taking A&P 2 with Psy 210 and it's not that bad.

Yeah that is what I plan on doing, taking A&P 1 in the summer, and then taking A&P 2 and PSY 101 in the fall. The summer semesters are significantly shorter than the fall and spring semesters. about 8 weeks long in the summer and 16 weeks long in the fall and spring. So everything is going to sped up in the summer.

I am thinking of doing a similar route. I am doing A&P I now and was going to take another psychology class in the summer and then fall do my A&P II. But, I am thinking of doing the A&P II this summer...only if I get an A in A&PI though. HA! right now, I am pulling a B average. So, that is going to be the deciding factor for me. good luck

If you are only taking A&P I you should be fine even with working full-time; I took it last summer as a condensed course (8 weeks). I wasn't working, but I was homeschooling my 17 yo and I took three other online classes besides. It can definitely be done--A&P I is all about the memorization!! Good luck to you--and you may consider taking the online Intro to Psych as well if it's spread out longer over the summer. I'm not sure how your class is set up, but mine was fairly low on the challenge scale: discussion posts and short quiz over each chapter, and one 5 page paper at the end. Might be easier than adding something onto A&P II, which is more challenging since you will be learning the physiology of body functions. Just my .02 ! =D

I took AP I and II last summer in accelerated 5 week semesters while working full time. It can definitely be done with hard work and determination!

Where I took my prereqs, it's 1 anatomy course and 1 phys course, rather than two courses of A&P. That said, I took anatomy over the summer with condensed timing, while working full time. It was hard, but I pulled it off. You're smart to read ahead.

I took A&P I in an 8 week format last semester, so I had my regular full schedule plus the evening anatomy. It was busy, but definitely doable. I'm not sure how it is at your school, but at mine there are few evening courses during the summer semesters, so you might want to make sure the scheduling will work before you try to make a solid plan.

So I am taking A&P 1 this summer semester. Can anyone kind of give me an example of what their average week look liked during A&P in the summer semester? Was there a test every week? Just kind of talk me through a week of class. Also any tips would be great!

Thanks!

Hi there!

My class was condensed, and met every Tu/Th. In lab there was a quiz every time we met, with a midterm practical and a final practical. In lecture, there was a test every week....sometimes it worked out that the material we covered Tu. was our test for Th.; other times we had the weekend to study and be tested on Tuesday. Definitely fast-paced, but totally feasible--I had three other online classes besides, and this was my first semester back in college in 23 years!! lol If you're motivated you'll be all set!!

Best of luck,

JaeKayDee - I'm taking A&P I and II this summer in Boston. Where did you take your class? I will also be working full time and am worried about managing it all.

Took AP1 last summer. We met 4x a

week for 3.5hrs a day. I believe we had 3 tests in lecture, no lab tests aside from actually doing the workbook and performing the tasks. As HW, we prepare a summary after each lab detailing what we learned. The class wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's a lot I work, don't get me wrong but as long as you go over it daily, you should be fine.

I also work full time.
