A&P 1 &2 in the summer. Am I crazy?

  1. 0 Hey everyone. I am 25, have a 2 year old daughter and due to a loss of job yet again I am trying to get into nursing school for Fall 2014. That leaves me the summer, Fall & spring semesters to complete my pre-reqs.

I will not be working while going to school and I think Ill be able to get my daughter in day care for a full 45 hrs.

Am I crazy to try and take AP 1 &2 during the summer sessions? I soak up info pretty easily. I always had A's in school without really trying or studying. (not that I wont have to with A&P but Im pretty smart) And as a bonus school is only about 5 blocks from my house (community college).

Since I would start in June is there any recommended reading I should get a head start with?? I think Ill have to take another class along with it to qualify for financial aid so I think im taking English or something like that. That would leave me with Chem, eng, math & pysch & microbiology for the spring & fall classes. I kinda just wanna get a&p out of the way.

I took A & P 1 & 2 over the summer and it was difficult because I was constantly exhausted. I had class every night from 5-10 including lab and I worked. If you're taking another class on top of it I say you have to be really well organized with your time. Since I'm assuming the classes will be accelerated it'll feel like you can never keep up with homework and exams. It can be done but you have to be dedicated about keeping on top of everything. If you can buy your anatomy book ahead of time do that and start reading. We had to memorize the muscles in the arm & legs so you could probably start with that.

I won't be working, that's the only reason I'm considering it

If your not working it is definitely doable.

I'm sure it's doable but it'll be very hard. I'm taking A&P 1 now and it's probably the hardest class I've ever taken, and I've taken a lot (I have a BA and a masters). I think it really depends on your limits. If you go into it knowing it will be brutal and you have great time management, you'll get through it. The best advice I can give you is to get your hands on the textbook and start reading. I know at my school all the A&P classes use the same text. Good luck!

I am taking A&P 1 and 2 in an accelerated class... 4weeks....it's crazy fast! We quiz everyday and exam every 2 days...next week is my final week... Wish me luck! It's crazy busy but it can be done!

I am taking A&P 1 and 2 right now in one semester. I don't work but I have three kids. We have already had 2 lecture tests covering 9 chapters and 2 lab practicals(class just started January 9th). I have managed to keep an A+ average in there. I study some but not near as much as I should. It's quick and hectic but can definitely can be done!

i took a&p 1 and biology 1 during summer. got A's in both. it was brutal though. best advice ever got and why i have all A's now is to use a recorder...i listen to the lecture again only once for each day and rewrote my notes. i hve straight A's my last 59 credit hours

Yea I've seen the recorder advice, definitely something I will do!

Its unrelated but Im also looking to do a CNA program from March-April/May (unemployment will probably pay for it). Im getting excited. Nursing was something I never seriously considered but if I ever though about medicine I always imagined myself in L&D. Then when I was pregnant I got obsessed with pregnancy & L&D, so much so that my OBGYN never had to break down technical terms for me, lol.

edited to add the becoming a CNM is my long-term goal

I will probably get the textbook about a month or 6 weeks before class actually starts

I took AP 1 & 2 during the summer. And even took micro while at it and psych too! Especially after I unserstood that professors were a little more lenients with us students during the summer. Not that it was easy, it was certainly not for the faint of heart! It was...challenging, yes challenging! But there is nothing more rewarding than obtaining an 'A' after just 4 weeks of school!

I took A&P I and I don't think I would have been able to take both. You really want to make sure you do well in your pre-req's so you have to be careful about taking too many classes. I bought a small paperback book called Getting Ready for Anatomy & Physiology and it really saved me! Also, I'd recommend getting Chemistry For Biology Students. I also put everything on index cards. Good luck! You can do this!

if it were me and I wasn't working and my child was in daycare I would not take both at the same time. You don't know what theprofessor will be like and a and p can get challenging. I've aced 35 hours of college classes and have recent ally began a and p and its the most difficult class I've ever took. Take my advice, one at a time. Even if you can do it... don't take the chance.

It's not both at the same time. You can't do that. It's 2 summer sessions so I'd take A&P 1 during the first and A&P 2 during the second
