26, starting from the bottom, do I really stand a chance???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi,

Im a 26 (soon to be 27) COLLEGE FRESHMAN and I am feeling defeated before Ive even started. Im just feeling as if im going to be an old woman when I finally start my career. I first started my college career at 19, but I goofed around ALOT , never took it seriously and have been in school off and on since then. In addition to that I have a four year old daughter. So now in Sept, I have to take the pre req, which will prob take two semesters to complete then an additional year for the nursinG classes (going for my ADN) . My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA, which means I will be about 107 when I finally finish, lol. Is anyone else going through this? I know nursing school is NO joke, im starting to question can I really do it. Motherhood. work, school (all full time) UGH! Be coming a nurse is my passion, my heart skips a beat evry time I see a hospital, but its starting to seem impossible :-/

26 is not bad at all for just starting out. Sounds like you'll be about 29-30 when u graduate & I'll be 30 when I do too! My boyfriends cousin is 32 and just started the CRNA program

You guys are the BEST!! I am now so excited and amped up about starting. Thank you so much for the encouraging words, ESP from all the moms who are doing it !! xoxoxoxoxoxoo:inlove:

I hear ya LoriKiersteadMattis! I completed my pre-req's in December and petitioned for the nursing program in April. I am 46 too and it is never too late to fulfill your career goals. Shout out to all my older gals!

My best friend is 35 she started took two year of pre reqs and in the fall we will be starting nursing school which is two more year unless you take summer courses. She has a GPA of 4.0 . You can do it! Don't worry about anything you have this! Good luck and be positive! :)

Take it one step at a time. Forget CRNA school for right now...your first step is to become a RN and get really good grades so that you can hopefully get accepted into NA school. I agree with the previous poster to keep your aspirations quiet and only tell people you trust because employers, nurses and students can get annoyed with the whole CRNA ambition thing and some ICU managers will not hire CNRA hopefuls.....I started RN school at 25....graduated at 28 and will be done with NP school at 32. It is a long road, but it def can be done!! Just take it one thing at a time or it is easy to feel like it will never happen...GL!

oh wow! I WISH I was 26 when I started on this road.. lol... I just became a nurse and I was 40!!!! I am raising two kids, worked full time, while in nursing school, managed a decent gpa and kept the family intact. If you want it you will DO IT... and your age is in your favor !! keep us posted...

If I told you that all of your dreams could come true in 10 years, would you tell me you couldn't wait that long...

Never give up on your dreams!! You have plenty of time to fulfill your dream of becoming a CRNA! It's never too late! I'm turning 24 and starting the nursing program in the fall and also want to become a CRNA! I've come to realize that I'm ok with possibly being in my 30s and going to CRNA school! Stay positive, you can do it!

It's never too late to fulfill your dreams, trust me! I'm 24 and just about to start the nursing program! I didn't take school seriously at first when I graduated HS and dropped out for a few years and started over in 2010! I would also like to be a CRNA and have come to terms with probably being in CRNA school when I am almost 30! If this is your passion you will succeed and be ok with being an older non-traditional student! With age comes wisdom and maturity! Stay positive! You can do this!

Sorry about posting twice! It wouldn't work the first time so I tried it again and I guess both posted!

I recently had a nursing student with me who is 27 and finishing school (I take leadership students). Let me tell you she was light years ahead of my normal 21 year old students aka she never hid behind the curtain! You are.light years ahead of those 18 year old freshmen. Besides where will you be in four years if you don't do nursing school? Just four years older!

Good lord I'd better start heading for the old folks home, then. I am 31 and am only in my second year of pre-reqs. 12 years in the making and been a student for the last 3. Also planning on having a baby soon and ya know what? How old will I be in 5 years if I DONT go through with school? Thats how I look at it :-)
