Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hi,

I am applying to the University of Indiana's ACNP program for Fall 2014. I have been a nurse going on 4 years and in the ICU for a year and a half.

I would greatly appreciate any advice regarding the admission process. Specifically the entrance essay (what to highlight) and the resume. I recently updated my resume and would love some critique on it, if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

Hello, I'm also interested in fall FNP 2014. It's best if you get a professional resume.

I applied there over weekend. Have you heard back from them?

Hello, I started USI this fall. Like so many other people have helped me on this forum, I would be happy to answer any questions (if I know it...lol).

I applied for Fall 2013. At the time, the application information seemed scattered. They required two applications: one for SON and one for graduate studies. Some forms had to be sent snail mail as well. In the end, no one told me to apply to graduate studies (partly my fault because I'm sure the information is SOMEWHERE, but most schools do not require separate apps) and I was disqualified from admissions. I was never notified of the receipt of my application to SON, further instructions, or application status. I played the run-around with admissions for several days until someone was able to tell me the issue and they would do nothing about it at that point. Luckily, I had other offers closer to home and ended up starting in Summer 2013 at a different school anyway. Either way, I was not a fan of their process. Make sure you have the full story on the application!

Wow, I am sorry you had that experience. The same thing happened to me at a different school when I applied for my ADN 5 years ago. Two separate apps one to the school for general admission and the other to the program itself. I have realized that most schools are like that (2 sep apps). USI states that on their website though. The school of nursing accepts your apps and then add it to the pool of candidates after it has been evaluated and accepted. The school of nursing then makes their final decision about 3 months..

They will be able to answer better about the apps process.

Rajan, you PM inbox is full, so I posted here.

How difficult are your classes? Are you working? What was your gpa and experience before acceptance? Mine is 3.5 gpa and 4 years. I'm an older rn as this is my second career. Do they do interviews? Which specialty are you?

Thanks

Adam

Work 3, 12s nights, GPA and work experience same as yours, I am older too, no interviews, PMHNP, classes are lots of work but doable.

adamRn79,

I am an ACNP student at USI and will finish this summer. I have also been working full time (3-12s). My GPA was 3.75 and I have been a nurse since 1991. This program is very doable, but I have lived it, especially since clinicals started.

I didn't mean to hijack the conversation, but if I can answer anything, I'm glad to.

Good luck!

Hi Adam,

I was unable to answer your comment by replying to your inbox. I guess I have not been active enough?

Anyhow, I did the 3 year part time track. All the lectures are recorded. The school uses a posting platform called Blackboard with all the class materials posted.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. How hard are the classes? What is the 20 hr diagnostic/lab clinicals involve? Do you recommend the program?

thanks

adam
