Hi All,

I have decided to go back to school for my AC-PNP. Unfortunately, I live in a state that does not have this program, so I am looking at online programs. So far, I know there is Rush, UAB, USA, Vanderbilt, and Creighton. Is there any other online programs that you know of that I can look into and compare? Thanks

I don't think there are AC-PNP Programs that are 100% online out there just yet. I've looked everywhere. AC-PNP programs are not as available if you think about, compared to PNP's or even FNP's.

I have my MSN and just applied for Post-MSN Certificate AC-PNP at UT-Arlington for Fall 2014 and I plan on applying at TWU's (Texas Women's Univ) Post-MSN Cert PNP program too. Only because if I don't get into UTA right away (which I heard takes awhile due to the number of applicants), I would have TWU to fall back on & get my PNP. It would only take an extra semester at UTA to get AC-PNP.

At UTA and TWU, I know a couple of their classes are online but they still require students to attend some classes at the campus. Not sure about other schools out there.

University of South Alabama has an online track for Acute Care PNP. See link below. Hope this helps :) I appled for the Primary Care PNP program there and am looking forward to hearing back. Also, they have leinient admission requirements. They do not require letters of recommendation or GRE. All is online and clinicals are in your home town. You have to visit the campus once for a two day orientation. Good luck.

@sheryl I accidently posted the link for the DNP acute care PNP. Here is the link for AC-PNP Masters level. Looks like it is a 4 semester program. The cost is 465 dollars per credit hour I believe.

Aahaaa!! Thanks for that @rnmindy. I was wondering about that link it said PNP-AC Post Masters DNP, made me want to consider doing the DNP track but I think I'd have to be a NP first hahaha :lol2:

@rnmindy…So far,USA is where I'm heading since the cost is great and the lack of extra hoops to jump through is a good option too.

@.sheryl. …yeah I don't know about any other schools but the one's I listed including USA are online. I just didn't know if there were any other options out there.

Is USA the only online program? I'm so excited since you guys mentioned it. I had no idea. I'm now gonna apply cause you are right @my3suns the cost is so reasonable and I'm a huge fan of online programs since I have a 3 year old, a baby on the way, work full-time and I hate driving haha. Btw, have you both applied to USA yet @my3suns and @rnmindy?? Or any news from them? I've looked into the process and seems tedious. I've never used the NursingCAS system before.

I am not sure if they are the only program but when I was searching for schools, they were the only ones that offered acute and primary care peds. Everyone else seems to offer fnp but I have no interest in working with adults lol so I was really looking for just peds. It was even more attractive because you aren't required to take the Gre. Like you I have children and work full time so online is the only way to go. I did apply for fall 2014. The nursing cas isn't terrible , just a pain to enter your coursework. The secondary app is easy. I haven't had an issue. The deadline for fall is April 1 and you don't hear anything until 6 weeks after the deadline! So mid may at least. I'm trying not to focus on it since I know it will be a while. Anyway, good luck :)

I don't know if people are still interested in this topic but University is offering an ac-pnp program starting in 2014. They are also offering a combined primary care and acute care pnp program. Their programs are about 98% on line with a very few campus visits (to work in the simulation lab). Drexel works on a quarter system rather than a semester system. It is not as inexpensive as the University of South Alabama but the application process is pretty straightforward and they don't require GREs.

How do you know it is being offered? I'm in their primary PNP and have been waiting to hear about the acute being offered. I plan to just take that as well as my primary care PNP. Last I heard the paperwork was still at the state level for approval.
