Anyone invited to interview at Wolford?

Nursing Students SRNA

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has received a letter to interview at Wolford yet. It's been two weeks since their cut off date for applications (Fall '06)and I haven't heard anything.

If anyone at Wolford visits this site and you have the inside scoop, there's one RN that would like to know when to expect a letter. Thanks!

RNbama,

We'll be in the same session then! Good luck and I will see you there (but we won't know who each other is). And... aren't your fingers cramping by now? How do you brush your teeth and stuff?

less than a week to go....very excited and nervous too! all of you interviewing on the 17th let us know what it's like!

Easy interview - no major clinical questions.

Total applicants interviewed: 45. Class size: 30-34.

As you can tell, chances are pretty good.

I think they are looking for a personality "cool under pressure", even though there's no pressure ... :)

Naples is awesome.

Good luck, guys!

Thanks for the info Businessman! I leave on Friday and was getting very anxious! Now I know I have to calm down and, as you put it, stay "cool under pressure" Thanks again and I hope to meet ya'll in Naples in October!

Well, interview went well...got an offer! Yeah! :lol2: Love Naples...still here typing on the hotel's computer. My husband and I went apartment hunting yesterday just to see what we're up against. We found a condo that is in the middle of a complex that is being converted fom apartments to condos. If we do the work ourselves, we can buy the thing for 20k under market value. Still looking at the deal, don't want to get ripped off but it sounds good. We would sell it at the end of the program and hopefully recoup some of that interest money.

I have still to hear from OHSU but I have feeling about Naples and the Wolford program that compares very favorably to the Portland program. Thanks everyone who was there on the 20th. I liked every one there and would be proud to be your classmate!

CONGRATS!! I would have loved the sun and beach, but the close commute to kids currently in college, cheaper living area, and small class-I chose the bird in hand....When do you have to let them know you if you are going to accept their offer?

I don't know but I already wrote them and told them I want to attend. OHSU offered me a spot but I weighed the pros and cons and decided to go with Wolford.

Wolford has a philosophy that really sticks with me. I like their approach to anesthesia education. They were very up front with how many had applied (75-80) and how many they would interview (40) for 30-35 spots. They are not worried about a seemingly slow start because they are just getting up and going on their own (without the university).

They have been an anesthesia school for 10 years but just recently broke with the university they were with. The director told me they have been around long enough to hone in on what makes sense for their students and have cut out what they can that doesn't have anything to do with anesthesia education (i.e nursing theory and research).

I can stay in Naples for the whole two+ years if I choose. The clinicals are varied and extensive. They double the # of cases that the AANA requires and teach regional blocks, central lines, epidurals, etc. Their pass rate on the board exam is 94%.

They were laid back and friendly. The students I met were enthusiastic and told me that the faculty tries really hard to help you with any problems you might encounter. This all may be blowing smoke up my skirt but it felt right, looked right, and sounded right. I gotta go with my gut.

Congrats !

I also got a letter on Monday, but I'm still weighing my options. I'll interview at ECU soon, and their hospital in bigger (25 OR's), smaller class size and cheaper living - all these are issues I have to weigh ... :o

But it's a good problem to have.

If moving to Naples, I was also thinking of buying, but we'll buy something made of block, with ceramic tile on top. I'm taking no chances in "hurricane country" ... :lol2:

ICUDOUCME,

How were you notified by OHSU of your acceptance? I also interviewed and was told notifications would be mailed on the 24th and that they would not give info over the phone until monday.

I told them at the interview that I had a spot at another school (Newman in Kansas) but that I needed to send money to Kansas by the 26th or lose my spot. They said they'd call me as soon as they made a decision regarding my application. They called me two days later and told me I had a spot if I wanted it.

I liked the people there a lot. But I felt like the program is just too new to have all the kinks worked out. Plus, I wasn't sure whether we could really handle the astronomical tuition and the higher cost of living in Portland.

Newman is a good school and well established but I liked Wolford better for the reasons mentioned earlier.

Good luck with your application! Let us know. I think OHSU will try really hard to make this first year a success.
