Hi! I'm currently looking at going back to school to get my MSN with a focus in education. I work full time, and my job also requires a fair amount of on-call (every fourth weekend, up to 40 hours during the week). The program I'm looking at is mostly online, with the exception of 6 credits of practicum. I worked very near full time while in school for my BSN except for the final semester. Just wondering how feasible it is to work full time while in school for a masters degree and if anyone has any tips to make it a little easier.

:p:)You and I are in the same situation!! Im wondering how difficult it will be but then I know nurses that have completed MSN successfully while working so I believe I can too

How many credits per semester will you be taking? I work with a couple people who work part or full time and are doing their MSN part time (they take 2-3 classes at a time). I personally will be starting an accelerated MSN in January that will be 10-12 credits a semester, the school required us to sign a contract stating we agree to work part time or less due to the intensity of the program.

WOW, you had to sign a contract?!! I will be working full time and taking classes part-time. 2-3 classes at a time. Plus I have a 6 year old that I have to assist with his school work and activities so that will keep me busy enough!

The program I'm looking at is Walden's MSN in education. It's 2 classes per semester, one in the first 8 weeks and then the second the next 8 weeks.

I work 40 hours a week with call and go to school part-time for my MSN. I am taking 6-7 credits a semester. It is challenging, but if you are organized and able to use your time well, it is doable.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It sounds like it'll be 6 credits per semester, and it sounds doable with my current schedule. Glad to hear there are others out there who have been there, done that.
