welcome

and

congratulations!

this is a place for folks planning to enter the yale gepn class in the fall...and our columbia etp friends, too!!!

there's gotta be more than me and bics??!!??

Hey! I have been looking at the IKEA website and I must say that their furniture seems to run on the small (and low to the floor) side...my hubby is pretty big (6ft and about 225) and pretty solid, LOL and I am worried about those beds and couches (the affordable ones anyway) but I have been to Ikea and they have more to choose from inside the store, so maybe it will still work!

True, *nothing* compares to the cost of living in NYC, but right now the apartments I am seeing cost three times the cost of my apartment here!! That's a huge difference! And I don't qualify for private loans, so that $20,000 left over after financial aid is CASH for us!!! So, the cheaper the better, because I don't have any aid to fall back on!

Other folks have suggested that I ship some stuff, too. It seems extremely expensive??? I remember shipping Christmas gifts one year and it cost me a couple hundred dollars (I had heavy stuff like a microwave, comforters and books, though)...But that would be a lot to ship...I guess I could rent a car and drive it down...and buy the furniture when I get there...

We are not bringing a car...

So much to think about...thanks for the mailing offer!

Hey I still haven't gotten that packet they mailed...did anybody else get it yet?

LP

Bics, did you get your packet yet? Still no packet for me!

Kelly, what does the sample schedule look like?

Hmmmmmm, you should have gotten your packet by now for sure. You should call them. The packet has tons of stuff in it. And as far as the sample schedule, it really wasn't that bad. Basically we're doing stuff from 8am until 3pm on non clinical days. I was so involved in things in undergrad that I was going from 7am until 10pm every day, so I am totally ok with this schedule. Not to mention the fact that I won't have to take anatomy (we can waive it if we've taken it already) which basically frees up every friday! Whoo-hoo!

Been looking daily on the craigslist just to get an idea of housing. Looks like it will be just around what we were told. (at least $650 for a studio) C'est la vie!

Well I called them and it didn't get mailed until yesterday :uhoh3: .

Is there anything important I should know about? Physicals, AHA BLS courses, money due soon?

I have been looking on Craig's List also, but I am trying to get into the graduate family housing.

I am still waiting on Lauren to say whether the school will accept a B- in Anatomy and Physiology. I *hate* the plus/minus system for this very reason.

A little stressed and out of the loop.

LP

how weird!:uhoh21: Well, you should be getting it in the next few days at least.

Now that you mention it, there is a lot of info in the packet but nothing really of great importance. I think they said that it will be coming later. I guess we do have a lot of time before we actually start. I keep feeling like I'm on the Columbia time line--they're starting in May! Even though that sounds exciting, I would be going crazy right now.:uhoh3:

yeah craigslist is nice, but nothing is available starting august at this point--everything is like may or june availability.

OH! we do get an academic calendar in the packet! that's nice to have! we get over 2 weeks for spring break!

Ditto about not having to do all of this in two months! (Well LESS than two months now!) I would SO be freaking out, especially since I don 't graduate *until* MAY. I can't imagine what stress I'd be going through! But I keep up with their thread and they're doing fine!

I had saw the academic calender on the YSN website, so I knew about the two weeks off, which is GREAT. I'm sure we'll need it! Is there an orientation schedule in there? I mean I know when it is, but are there activities listed? I saw on last year's that they actually provided a shuttle to IKEA for part of the orientation! That would be cool.

I contacted the American Heart Association and the course we need to take is $50 in my area. But they are held very often and so I can wait until the end of the summer if need be, which is great for me...

What is the new website for accepted students? Is it up and running?

I *finally* got my darn packet! LOL You guys were right, it was a TON of info. A lot to take in. I am so excited. But I have SEVERE senioritis right now, I graduate in May and I am dyyyyyyyyyyying right now because I am sooooo sick of my school! LOL I just want to turn everything in and not go to class anymore!

HEY, I HAVE A QUESTION about the Anatomy thing...it seems like we might only need 2 Anatomy credits with a B or better? I already took a 4credit hour A&P course and got a B (last semester) but I am in A&P II this semester....but it looks like I don't even need the A&P class that I am taking now? So even if I get a B- it won't matter because I already fufilled the 2 credit hour requirment??? I should call. But that would make my life SOOOOO much easier right now!!

i had the same thing. I took the first half of the A&P course last semsester and then did not take the second half this semester so I thought i Was going to have to take anatomy since I did not take the physiology part (2) BUT it looks like I am in the clear as well because it was 4 credits. I faxed them my situation but did not hear anything back...we will see. I would LOVE fridays off :)

I just wanted to let you folks know that our new board is up and I have just posted over there...maybe it will be a little more lively??!!
