Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hey guys.. TO all who have gotten accepted, I am looking to apply to this program among others.

My overall is a 3.0 with a pre-req of 3.5...I also have 3yrs direct patient contact work experience as a Orthopedic Tech. I was just hoping you guys could give me an insight on what my chances would be in being accepted? anything in particular the school is looking for? etc... Maybe some of you are willing to share your GPAs and your application experience.

Hi ainyang6087,

I just submitted my app to the AMPNN program, I am so glad to have found this thread. my gpa is a 3.2 my pre-req is a 3.6 and I have volunteered as a clinical care extender. The application was fairly easy and I think you will be fine based on your stats and experience you have. Good luck to you :-)

I've been looking for an AMPNN thread! My overall GPA is probably around 3.2 (I took credits at a few different schools before finishing my BA) and my pre-req GPA is currently around a 3.6. I have a year of patient care experience in a psychiatric hospital, and about two years of research experience in preventive cardiac and psychological research.

Past years' threads indicated that they do a series of phone interviews, I don't know if that will hold true this year. I panicked the other day because the application still said they hadn't received my paperwork - I contacted the school and they said they're wading through mounds of transcripts and other paperwork. Anyone know what to expect with this year's admissions process?

hey guys,

So I got a phone interview for the upcoming ABPNN, I'm a little nervous, I was aiming for the AMPNN but its alright , I heard this program is one of the best and guarantees you a lot of opportunities. Hope the same news goes for you all :-) Have you guys heard anything yet?

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm glad someone's heard back! Previous years' posts have indicated that there are two rounds of phone interviews. I think the first one is for the ABPNN, and if you're up to snuff for that, then they may push you on to the AMPNN review committee. Hopefully that's the case this year, too! When's your phone interview? And, of course, GOOD LUCK!

hey @snoozyd

oh I see, I turned in all my supp docs on the 31st and they called me yesterday morning, I know they're very quick. I have my phone interview at 10am eastern time, which is 7am cali time. I'm already prepping questions about what they're going to ask me . Good Luck to you guys. Are you applying to any other programs as well?

I applied to MGHIHP (Boston), Yale, Columbia and Vanderbilt. Rochester's website says they're missing one of my transcripts, my CPR card and a letter of rec that should have all arrived two weeks ago :bored: .... The admissions rep hasn't gotten back to me if she'll allow these documents or if I'm too late, so I guess I'm going to mail a bunch of stuff to them tonight. Hopefully that works and I'll hear something about the interview process. Let me know how it goes! Good luck!

Hey snooyzd,

So, I just had my interview this morning, it went fairly well, my interviewer just happens to be one of the faculty members? it was super early so I will def catch up on my sleep lol. here is the questions that she asked me just in case you have your interview. hope this helps :-)

1) how did you go from _______ to nursing?

2) why nursing?

3) what makes you a good fit for our program?

4) do you plan on working while enrolled as a student?

5) what healthcare experiences do you have?

6. Tell me about your experiences with nursing/ clinical and life experiences?

7. How do you handle stress?

8. Why U of R?

9. What are the three characteristics of a nurse?

10. What skills and attributes you can bring as a nurse?

I also asked her things about the program, fin aid etc and she was very nice and I think you will do very fine and I got a little nervous but I gave it my all. My interviewer also said that she is going to send the interview to the committee and they would either call/send a letter by the end of January.

OMG thats no bueno snooyzd, cause I turned in my stuff like literally the day before the deadline and miraculously , I have everything they needed. Well I hope you are able to have all your materials so you can get an interview. Best of Luck snoozyd.

Also, those are very good top-notch programs your applying too. From what I'm seeing here, your background is very strong and complements a lot of aspects of nursing. Keep me updated

Woohoo thanks for the info! Yeah, I'm not too pleased about the admissions person considering every other school has been very proactive in letting me know if I need to turn anything else in. She never got back to me. I mailed what I could in just in case it would help. And, frankly, the admissions person has not been helpful at all with the questions I've had so I'm getting frustrated to the point of me being a bit over UR.

Hopefully they all like your interview answers! Did they say anything about it going to a masters comittee for another interview, or was it al

@snooyzd,

Chances are maybe just maybe they beginning to place people on the ABPNN cycle because from what I was told heard they pick very few people for the AMPNN and doing the ABPNN can guarantee you a space in the AMPNN . I am not sure if you would want to pursue this route, otherwise they would have contacted you much sooner. I do not mind the ABPNN route because there are so many specialties in nursing that I'm looking into and doing the ABPNN can really narrow down what I really want to specialize into. I find it odd that they have not been actively involved in your app, but give it at least till the end of the month until you can start annoying them lol. I definitely understand that, it weighs heavily to the point you got are more focus on the other programs. I feel bad that they're not updating you regularly and please just continue to hang in there and I'll cross my fingers that you will get the good news.

I hope my answers were good too, but use this guide so it can help you for future interviews. What my interviewer told me is that they will forward it to the committee and I am expected to hear from them around mid to end of January.

Thanks for the encouragement, missliliposh! The whole application process for all the schools has been exhausting, but my frustration all seems to have landed on Rochester. I was wondering if the AMPNN slots have all been filled up, which would make sense if they're just doing ABPNN now. We'll see if they even reach out. Did you apply to any other direct-entry MSN programs? Would you do the ABPNN if you got into a different accelerated NP program?

Yes I definitely agree that grad apps are a pain and exhausting and EXPENSIVE and yeah theyre a pain. Especially when it winds down to the last minute and you want to make sure, you gather your references, transcripts etc.. its all one big hiatus lol. Since they only take few people for AMPNN, and they said the GPA had to be atleast above 3.5, I doubt they can fill the slots up so fast. Just be sure to reach them, bother them cause thats very odd that it would take this long.

Yes I applied to about seven other programs: UCSF, UofArizona, CBU, U of San Diego, Azusa Pacific, and U of Rochester ( of course lol) so far.

I'm debating if I want to apply to U of San Francisco for one the app is due on Feb 1st, second, I already did my interview with UR and hopefully will get a few more but im still debating.

Have you heard from your other programs regarding interviews etc.. Those are very good programs and you seem to have a good chance :-)
