UCLA MSN Fall 2015

I only applied to UCLA. If I don't get accepted to their PNP program, the only other SoCal program I think is CSULB. I live in Los Angeles, and actually got my first Bachelor's at Long Beach, but not sure I'd be willing to drive two or three times a week down there. However, I might. Crossing fingers.

I just looked at UCLA's website and they extended the MSN application deadline from December 1st

to January 2nd. I wonder what this means?

I plan to apply to UC Irvine but I'm a bit hesitant about the travel distance. I'd be driving at least 3 hours to and from the school.

I did see the date extension, but I read it was for the Adult Gero and Adult Acute programs. No mention of the Family NP program. I hope they don't extend the notification dates!

So I pulled a B in that hell of a class I was taking. LOL

Now back to UCLA drama, I was told that two of my transcripts are missing and that the deadline is Jan 15. However, when I followed up with them early this week, I was told that they would let me know if they ever received them in a couple of weeks. What happens if all transcripts aren't received by the 15th?

Glad to hear your passed! At least it's over and done with.

That sucks about your transcripts. I'd call UCLA again and ask what would happen. Hopefully they'll receive it soon!

OK here's to waiting until April/May! I wonder why they extended the deadline. Maybe not enough applicants?

I spoke to them in february and they told me the FNP program has 40 spots and 83 applicants. I spoke to another mentor of mine and she told me the odds are great because usually there are 100 plus applicants.

Hey guys, I know the wait is horrible - I was in your shoes last year. Our deadline was Dec 1st, and I got my acceptance email on April 28th (the first week everyone got acceptances). I remember we were promised we'd hear back by early March, then mid to late March, then early April, then the next week, and the week after, then by the end of April. I know they were short-staffed last year, as someone was out having a baby. I don't know what the delay is this year, or why they extended the deadline. But just be prepared for them to extend the deadline. They traditionally send out BSN notices first, then the MECNs, then the MSNs, then the Post-masters, then the PhDs, so the NPs have a little time to wait

Also, I do know that the FNP is the largest NP cohort, but they also have the most applicants. It sounds like there may be less applicants this year from what other posters are saying. I don't know if that's the case. But applying for the MSN NP is a lot easier than getting into the MECN program - I think we had 600+ applicants for 50 MECN spots the year I was accepted. So the odds are definitely in your favor with the NP program haha.

Also, for those needing to retake physio, I highly recommend taking it with Cord Kirshner at UCLA Extension. He began as my classmate (we were MECNs together), and now he is my coworker. I had to repeat physio for NP school, and he made it SO much easier to learn. Plus he knows what UCLA expects (we suffered together in pathophys as MECN students), and how to prepare you best for it. I also had to repeat pathophys as an NP student last year, and no joke, me and another classmate basically used Cord's powerpoints when they would give us these crazy complicated lectures that left us lost.
