Summer Entry 2012 Accelerated BSN Johns Hopkins

Okay I have searched far and wide to find a topic relating to this but have only found older ones... I mean come on guys the world isn't really going to end December 2012. So here's to the 2012 application cycle!

I have a ton of questions for those who are applying and those who have applied and those who are in the program. Any and all input will be much appreciated. Also just so you know, I will be attending the October 1st open house.

If I were to describe myself, I would say grade-wise I am not the strongest candidate for JHU's nursing program as it is considered top in the nation. HOWEVER I have great experience and recommendations to cancel that out. I am also trying really really hard to make those essays seem great but only 300 words?

So to anyone reading this post, what do you think I can do to make myself a stronger applicant?

Relating to specifically JHU, I have heard a million different things about their program. From "it really sucks and is not worth it" to "best program EVER". JHU is supposed to be a school that is the leader in research and also has a global perspective. Can anyone else tell me what is so special about JHU's nursing program? What is your personal experience with it?

As far as location and campus, I think it doesn't matter as long as the educational program is incredible.

A representative will email you if you have outstanding application materials or if it is completed. Either way they will update you on what the next step is.

I know at most schools if you get denied in the early decision pool you are typically denied in total. On the other hand there is the potential to get deferred from early decision and then have your application be reconsidered for the regular decision. Not sure how it works for graduate programs but I know that is standard for undergraduate admissions.

I noticed JHU cleared my application fee check two days ago which was in a sealed envelope within my large application folder. Super ready to get the second email and schedule an interview. Don't want to pay too much for a last minute flight/need to talk with my current professors about missing class. Don't think they'll mind but it would be nice to warn them a considerable amount of time beforehand.

JHU also processed my check yesterday. I believed they received all the materials as well. Hopefully, I will hear from them in the near future.

Anyone else hear back about scheduling an interview for the MSN portion? I was hoping to hear back on Friday but no email!

I started my application the other day. Guess I better start asking for references and what not. I was waffling on applying BSN/MSN or just BSN. I believe they stated that if they don't accept you as a MSN student, they may still accept you as a BSN. Can anyone verify?

Yup, they may accept you just for the BSN and not for the MSN. From what I understand, it is two separate admissions committees.

I will bringing my pooch to nursing school with me. Just curious, anyone else in the same scenario? Definitely will be a huge responsibility but she's like my best friend lol...I hope that doesn't sound weird.

Quick question as I am wrapping up my essays (I know...1 week until apps are due. EEK!!) Did anyone slightly go over the 300 word limit? The directions say approximately and one of my essays is hovering around 324 and not sure where to make the cut. Any help or feedback would be great! With such a small space to write, one line could make or break it.

I went a little under and over 300 words. I think one of them went over 320 too...

Same - mine ranged from around 250-330. I think as long as you are answering the question, being concise and interesting then you are golden!

I'm pretty sure I went over the word limit as well. You should be okay. I'm so excited! I'm scheduled for the interview on Nov. 17, 2011. It's a phone interview since I won't be able to fly out there. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
