RN to MSN Online Programs?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello Everyone,

I will be graduating this December (2014) with my AA in nursing. I want to immediately go back to school and earn my MSN in nursing education. I live in Maryland and want to continue my education online. I wanted to hear from others...

From your experience what are some good RN to MSN online programs out there?

How long did it take for you to complete?

Any advice on which direction to take would be great!

Hello RN2B, I am currently in an online RN-MSN program in Leadership through . There prices are comparable and up until the Capstone-graduate portion I wizzes through the courses and finished my BSN in 11 months. The MSN should only have taken an additional 12 months but have had problems with the capstone (research) portion and have had several revisions that were unnecessary r/t an evaluator who does not know what she is doing. I see on social media sites that many others have had the same problem.

look online at reviews from actual students before choosing an online MSN program. I found lots of information after I signed on that would have made a difference in which school I chose.

Good luck and congrats! Lisa

Hi LChrismer,

Thanks for your reply. I have been reading about . I am going to look into their school further. I like how it is ran by your own pace. I read one post saying she finished her BSN in 3 months! Is that even possible? lol

Im not clear. Are you actually in a program at ? If so, what do you like and dislike? I have just applied there and would appreciate any opinions/advice.

I'm also pretty interested in Western Govenors. I am just interested in my BSN for now. I don't think you can even sign up for until you have a job. So I probably need to get one of those first :)

I contacted a registration counselor and he told me to start the process with them 3 months before I plan to start. He said it takes about that long to shuffle paperwork around. Also, he said to keep in mind classes start the 1st of every month. I am getting excited. I graduate in December (with ADN) and I just accepted a position as a Per Diem LPN. Once I graduate, I plan on advancing to the RN role. I did hear you have to be working as a RN to attend WGU. So hopefully upon passing my RN NCLEX I will be able to transition easily from LPN to RN. I have been looking at several online programs, but so far this is my first pick!

That's what I thought. I haven't gotten a job yet and don't know when I will get one. The job market is not so great where I live. I just wanted to start going back to school because I am so bored!!

if you are looking for ASN to MSN you can look into Simmons college, they now offer a distance learning option for AA RN's to Graduate level =)
