Question on Background for Admissions to Ivies

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello guys, I know this is sort of personal (and please, nobody answer if you don't want to!!! I don't want to make anyone feel weird and this may be a weird question to ask but I'm really just curious because I want to have a vague idea for myself) but if anyone knows of the GPA range for acceptance to MSN specialty programs (midwifery in particular) at Penn, Yale, Columbia and Georgetown, or the other details such as: were you involved in a number of extracurriculars/volunteering/community service/healthcare oriented activities during college?

Again, I know this can be pretty personal information and it's not the classiest thing to ask but I'm really just curious so I can have some idea of where I should apply. Please do not respond if it makes you uncomfortable!!! Thank you!!!

One of my doula births I found through Craig's List (I posted an ad and she responded). The other was a teen mama who I was working with in my senior thesis project (on community resources for teen mothers). If you are willing to work for free you can post an ad on http://www.bellywomen.net (one of the things I've done that I forgot to mention!). A lot of doulas who are just starting out find births through there.

Casa was a great experience. I'd love to go back. I've heard that people like the workshops at the Farm, but I thought they'd stopped doing them because the woman who ran them had a family thing going on? Maybe they've started back up.

I think we have the same background bellywoman! :-) Except I'm getting my BSN...but I'm headed to Casa for a 2 week internship in May ....

I'm hoping to take a Midwife assistant class in TN at the Farm with Ina May Gaskin, possibly next summer. Have you heard of anyone who's done that and what they've said about it?

Can I ask you all a few questions .... What's Casa? Do you have a website? Do you know where I can go in the CT area for doula courses? I took a few workshops when I lived in CA and want to continue learning labor support, but I am unfamiliar with resources in this part of the country and haven't found much on the internet.

I'm planning on attending the workshop at the Farm in August. It'll be my vacation and treat for myself! I wanted to go 2 years ago but couldn't get off work .... I think they have them every 2 years.

Casa is Casa de Nacimeinto. It's a birth center in El Paso, TX that provides student midwives with a place to do their clinical work. Their website is http://www.casamidwifery.com

I'm excited to see that the Farm workshops are back up. They are actually offered a couple of times a year but they didn't do any last year because the midwife who runs them was away from the Farm.
