Hello, If you're an out-of-state NP graduate, you'd need to get nationally certified by ANCC or AANP as a NP first before you can apply for your CA NP license. CA requires out-of-state NP grads be nationally certified, while in-state graduates don't need to be. Getting your CA RN license will make things easier later on. Assuming you're in a NP program you should be able to apply for your CA RN license just fine. Once you're certified by ANCC or AANP, send your certificate to BON and they will process your NP application. I had to do this 2 years ago, so feel free to message me if you have any questions. Don't worry about the furnishing number until you've gotten your CA NP license... One step at a time...

Any MD who agrees to "supervise" you (or ideally, "mentor" you) should be present in the clinic in case you have questions. FYI, pre-signed prescriptions are illegal. Stand up for yourself and do not use them!!! If you absolutely must (which I strongly advise you not to), at least make sure the MD is in the same clinic as pharmacies may call with questions regarding what's written/handwriting/dosage/whatnot. Hello, I am a CA NP. Please do not let any MD talk you into "volunteering" for these 520 hours, although I've heard of several NPs who had gotten their furnishing # this way. A practice/clinic/hospital that values your education/experience/worth enough to want to hire you should not be asking you to "volunteer" your professional service for 6 months. And yes, you can get the 520 hours from different MDs, but keep in mind that only 20 hours will count per week (thus for a minimum of 6 months is required). Working 40 hours a week doesn't mean you can apply for your furnishing # in 13 weeks. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions. Welcome to the profession! :)

heeheh, you must be coming to upenn since they made me buy one for $500 and i only had to use it in lab :) depending on what program you're in, you might or might not need to invest in one of these. if you're in acute care, you'll probably never have to use it again. but in primary care, it's essential. i don't even bring mine to my clinicals (too expensive to lose or break), they provide them at the site. doesn't hurt to invest in one though. don't settle for less expensive brands. good equipment is worth the money. :)

Hello fellow NPs out there, I'm a FNP student from Penn who will be finishing up in December 2007 (can't wait!). I was wonder if you all can give me some advices on when I should start looking for a job and how to look for the jobs. I'm in Philadelphia but I'm currently thinking of looking for a job in Los Angeles area. Most of the offers my school emails out are all in PA. Any idea where I should start? -Bobo

if you're looking to serve the immigrant population, then UPenn is your place to be! i'm currently a FNP student at UPenn and they did a great job placing me in a clinical rotation where i serve heavy immigrant populations! You will love it here. :) New Haven, from what I know, isn't culturally diversed.

llg, that's unbelievable! so typical of schools (not just nursing schools) to get money from you last minute. i just graduated from my bsn program 2 a week ago (whoa, has it been a week already?) and i'm completely broke. $200 nclex $195 application nursing license fee for one state $35 license endorsement fee for another state (my grad school requires students to have licenses in two states for easier clinical placement purposes) $80 sigma theta tau induction fee $60 cap and gowns i'll never wear again! $10 honor cord (rip off) $50 senior dinner dance i don't even want to go into how much money i've already spent on preparing for grad school.

hello! I was admitted to UCLA's FNP program full-time. I just (literally, I graduated yesterday!) graduated with my BSN. My double-majored in Chinese and Nursing. I didn't take the GREs for UCLA because it wasn't required. My cumulative GPA is 3.5 something; nursing gpa 3.78 and chinese gpa 3.95. I'm from NJ so I thought it'd be impossible to get into an UC school but apparently, it's not. :) I believe my extracurricular activities really made me stand out from other applicants because I'm sure all other applicants are strong academically as well. I also applied to UPenn and got in; I will be attending UPenn this fall. Best of luck! If you need any other info, don't hesitate to ask! -Bobo

hey hey, i got into UCLA grad school of nursing but (family nurse practitioner program) not the MECN program because I will be graduating with my BSN in a week. sadly i won't see you there; i turned down UCLA to attend another school. but i just want to let you know that you are in good hands. UCLA is great and if you've visited the campus, it's absolutely to die for. it's gorgeous. :) enjoy california, i envy you and congrats! :)
