ON-line NP programs

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

HI folks,

I am new here. I been reviewing these threads for a while now, but finally decided to join and post a thread. I am completing my BSN so that I can get into a master's program. I plan on becoming an adult health nurse practitioner. Because of where I live and the fact that I have small children I am looking for an on-line program. I have looked at several and am looking for advise and thougths from everyone. I am looking at Seton Hall, St. Louis Univiersity, Ohio State University, St. Francis Univeristy, and George Washington Univeristy. Does anyone know of any others as well. I still have one more year to finish the BSN so I am starting early in my search for the right NP program.

Thanks

I am looking into this program for FNP. Just wanted to know what you think about the school. Any ideas & comments helpful. Do you have to attend campus at any time?

Specializes in ER, GI, SAC.

I would love to here your thoughts on USI... I just got accepted there for the FNP program. Thoughts?

Specializes in Pediatric, Psych, School.

Has anyone had difficulty finding clinical preceptors in their local area hospitals for the online NP programs? How helpful has your school been in assisting students to obtain preceptors?

It looks like you have to have an MSN in something already to do their online FNP program.

Hello-I too am interested in an Online NP program. Does anyone know how well recieved these only programs are when it comes time to get a job post education? Are these programs successful in assisting the student to get the necessary information so the person can pass the boards? These are my greatest concerns. Also, do most people continue working? Would love to chat with someone that has attended one of the online NP programs. Thank you.

I have applied to Jefferson University's ANP program because it is a good school, it is online, and the ANP program is only a year long Full time. I figure that even though it is expensive, that gives me a year that I can be earning NP salary instead of being in school. There are other ANP programs but many many more are FNP. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs has an online ANP program. Denvers' is not. University of Cinncinatti and several others have ANP. Start with Peterson's. I did a lot of research. The ANP at USA ( Univ of Southern Alabama) is Gero. There are lots of Gero courses to take and no course in adolescent or women's health although they say you can sit for either or both GNP or ANP. It is reasonable and has less admission's requirements too like no references and no GRE etc, but I would be taking lots of Gero courses I do not want in order to sit for a boards they do not prepare me adequately for. Also the population you can treat if you get the GNP ( Gero NP) starts at age 65 if I am not mistaken. I asked that specific question at one school. That leaves a huge population out that I would not be able to treat. Plus, it is two years. I will be transferring in MSN courses and will have to repeat a few, but I have had them and it should not be bad at all. Did my BSN online and did very well. Duke and ECU in NC have online ANP programs too. I hope to hear from Jefferson in two weeks. I have fingers crossed. Good luck. Barinbass

Hello guys.

I am currently an RN who is interested in pursuing an advanced nursing degree as an FNP. However I have come across a road block. I am a resident of NY and many programs are not accepting NY state residents. For example I pulled this off the Indiana state university website "

At this time, the New York State Board of Education has not recognized or approved Indiana State University to conduct clinical nursing education with citizens from New York.

Indiana State nursing programs have been submitted for review but it has yet to be determined if the online programs will be considered.

Due to this unfortunate circumstance, the nursing programs at Indiana State University will not be accepting any undergraduate or graduate nursing students from the state of New York for admission into the major."

and this from the University of South Alabama website

New York and Pennsylvania residents only:

We have recently been notified by your state*s Higher Education Board

that all education programs including online programs must have approval

by this board prior to citizens from your state enrolling in a program.

Unfortunately, this means that we are unable to accept your application

for the MSN program here at USA College of Nursing until we obtain

approval to offer our program in your state. We sincerely apologize for

this inconvenience. If you have any questions at all, please do not

hesitate to contact me.

Is anyone else having this problem??? are there any NY state residents currently in an NP program online that can assist me????

I would really appreciate it,

Thanks in advance
