CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2009--any applicants/ current students?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi, everyone! I am getting ready to submit my application to CSULB's EL-MSN program--who else is applying?

Also are there any current students or graduates from this program out there? What do you think of the program--can you offer any advice?

Thanks!!

oh man... i'm an alternate. so close too!!! i WISH i had a bunch of choices to make...better to be in that position than to wait in the hands of others. eeeeeek!! =P *sigh* i really wanna go here too... ....does anyone know how to check with alternate statuses? whether it is to just keep calling in to see if anyone has withdrew from the program or just sit and wait for a phone call? goodness...gracious..... oh well, i'll just wait...great things come when least expected

...well at least i know now... i've been waiting in agony ever since they closed the application period. it's nice to have semi-closure, ahaha...

.......blah...

I feel your pain II 04r6 II--I am an alternate for two of the other el-MSN's that I applied to. I hope you get some good news soon.

Did you apply to any other schools?

Good luck!

csulb here i come. there wil be a spot opening up for csun alternates...

I decided on CSULB too!

Orientation on June 5.

I think there might be a student handbook or something online that we need to read. I believe Ms. Ward said the specific links would be in the letter we receive (sent out on Friday).

The director of the CSUF program suggested reviewing medical terminology and dosage calculations over the summer. I got a few books to study it on my own. She suggested taking a class if we had the time. I would think that it would also be helpful for this program.

So now I'm counting down the days until June 5!:hpygrp:

Yay, see you gals and guys on June 5!

I'm thinking of taking pathophysiology and pharmacology class during the summer. I found online patho class in santa barbara cc and hybrid pharm class in golden west college although I'm yet to apply and will have to check if csulb accepts them.

levoila, so did you check whether one can work after bsn?

There are a lot of downloads on their website.

Allen Tom are you out there in the allnurses.com forum world? I saw your name listed on the ELMSN acceptance picture Levoila took. Are you the same Allen that took Chem 51 at Elac?

Hello future nurses!

I'm in to csulb el-msn program. Does anyone know when school actually starts? And what color scrubs we wear? I'm so excited. Also, I saw some questions about working after the first 18 months. I dont know about CSULB but as far as CSUF goes about half of the students work part time and finish the msn part of the program as part time students. That means that it would take longer than 3 years to finish to full program. But it is recommended especially if you plan on doing NP. Also, I didn't know that you can transition into the NP program at CSULB! That's awesome. Does anyone know how long that NP program takes? Thanks so much!

Ashley

Class starts Aug 24th I think.

I am tempted to take those two courses during the summer.

Thanks!

Okay, cool thanks. About those two classes (med term and dosage) I'm not sure that it's necessary. This is the first semester CSUF has even required it and I have a good friend in the program there finishing up her first year and she has done great without it. So it doesn't seem like it's a must. I say, enjoy your summer, because the next three years are going to be hard!

Hi! I just got my letter from csulb...a few hours before I mailed my deposit for csula. What have you heard about the el-msn program? I just applied to try and i really didn't think i'd get in anywhere so I figured whoever takes me i'll go...hahaha...

I asked Ms. Ward if we'd be able to work part-time afer getting the BSN and she said yes. I then asked if she knew if the majority of the students ended up working, but she didn't have that info. She said that we'd get more details at the info session.

About the uniforms--don't buy anything yet. She said that we had to purchase a specific style from a specific store. They are going to be white nursing uniforms (not scrubs) :( the csun scrubs were cute! Oh well. Better weather and an additional degree--I can live withe the white uniform ;)

I got my letter today too! I need to print out thos documents.

About the classes, it was just something the CSUF director recomended. I have a few books that I plan on working through. I don't think I'll take an actual class. I just think that if there's a chance it will get me off to a better start, why not go over it before starting.

The CSUF pre-licensure portion is 18 months while the CSULB BSN portion is 16 months. I don't know that two months would make that big of a difference, but who knows :D Now that I'll have the time, spending time preparing will help temper my excitement :D

Is the contingency contract suppose to say "I accept the CSULB's BSN program offer..."? Do we need to do anything for the University (deposit?)?
