2013 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for the 2013 cycle of MEPN at UCSF (application date would be September 1 of this year). I'll be applying for psych/mental health, and it will be my first time applying to this program. I was wondering if anyone else is out there who is applying for the 2013 cycle. I'm hoping we could share encouragement and tips!

Also, there's a thread for 2012 applicants- definitely check that out too. :)

@sarahcee, yeah, I think I'm really leaning heavily towards SF. It's cheaper, closer to fam, and #1 for FNP...so shouldn't that be a no brainer??? I'm just scared to give my official notices just yet though...I still feel like it's just a bad joke that I got in to both schools and they're gonna say "PSYCH!" Just kidding...

Congrats to all of you who were accepted! Congrats to everyone for persevering.

I also got accepted for the PNP specialty!!! I found out last Thursday and am SO happy (it was basically the only school I applied to). I can't wait to meet all of you--I don't currently have a facebook account but I'm thinking about signing up for one to be in the MEPN'13 group.

My only worry about UCSF has to do with relocating to San Francisco. I live just outside of Portland, Oregon and am really unfamiliar with the SF area and have heard horror stories of finding housing/cost of living/etc. Does anyone have any advice about the city and neighborhoods? Where are y'all living? Anyone know anything about student housing and how that works? I heard at the Meet&Greet that sometimes student housing isn't available until the end of the summer (which seems pretty silly). Also, I'm really wanting to sell my car to help pay my rent but that also makes me a little nervous...thoughts? It seems like carpooling has worked well for many of the 2012MEPNS.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! It has been a long road and I have to say this forum has helped a lot. :)

P.S. Samdaman, I believe I met you at the orientation!

MimiAzu929, you best join the FB group because most of our dialogue has moved over there now. It'll answer some of your questions. And yup, we met a few weeks ago! Glad you got in too!

I wonder how we can reach the other members of the MEPN class who have not been on here/joined the FB group. I would love to get everyone in the FB group!

For the record, I'm still 90% UCSF, 10% NYC (Columbia); but that 10% is heavy-- 7 years of amazing relationships (both business and personal) that I am finding it more difficult to leave behind than initially surmised.

Flip a coin? :)

I am a 2014, UCSF hopeful, and just learned of the information session that is tonight. I know that they are monthly, but I keep hearing how helpful they are so I'm eager to go. Do you think they will bat an eye if I RSVP last minute? If so, I can wait..but I think I should go if you don't think it matters.

Hi Sarahcee,

I saw that you are online, and thought you might have some info about the informational sessions at UCSF. Im a future hopeful, but just learned about the informational session today. Do you think it's a bad thing to RSVP on the same day? Thank you!

@kp

I didn't go to any info sessions. I applied twice and got in this year. I'm sure it's helpful though.

Thank you chaparrita...I called, and the woman who takes RSVP didn't answer. Another guy did. He said it was fine to just show up, but I'm paranoid it looks bad that I didn't RSVP. Plus, I have almost an hour drive(which I don't mind if I feel like I should be there:) congrats on getting in!! Do you mind if I ask what your background is in; prior degree, GPA, GRE score, volunteer experience? I'd love to connect with some future 2014 hopefuls too, but I don't think a thread has been started for that yet? Thanks again!

Hi kp32! So sorry I didn't see your message earlier. Honestly, I think you'd be fine to just show up at the one tonight, however there really isn't a huge rush so you wouldn't be at a disadvantage to wait until next month's info session. If there is anything I can help you with directly or answer for you, feel free to PM me. :)

For those of you guys who want to get more MEPNs to join your facebook group, email SJ (don't want to say his name on here because it's against TOS I guess) and ask him to email the group link to the admitted students. That's what we did last year, since it seemed like only a minority of us were on allnurses.

Specializes in Midwifery/Women's Health.

Great suggestion myelin! I'll ask the group creator to do this.
