For some odd reason this month I have walked in on a couple of my teenage patients in the beginning of "the act" if you catch my drift. Maybe because it's summer time lol. Why would you want to do something like that in a hospital... in those small beds lol. Kids these days...

Remembering my experience as a stupid teenager, I think kids will do it anywhere they can get (what they think might be) reasonable privacy!

They always ask when is the next time your coming in lol.

Because they can! (And they're teenagers.). Time, place, and company don't matter.

Are boyfriend/girlfriends allowed to stay?

We have to remind our teen age patients that they are in a children's hospital. That there are small children here. And even though mom and dad let boyfriend/girlfriend spend the night at home it can not happen in a children's hospital.

That said I am amazed by what parents are ok with.

Had a 15yr old who I was admitting her boyfriend was laying in bed with her, cuddling, but both parents and aunts and uncle were in the room.

Her dad threw a fit when I explained the overnight visiting policy.

He got in a huff and said "well he is over 18, we are gonna lie and say he is a relative so he can spend the night"

My opinion if you are feeling well enough to be doing that, then you should be well enough to be going home

Ugh....what?!?!?!?!?

Like, are people that naive to think they are somehow doing the better thing for their kids than not allowing this kind of stuff? I always thought that was so weird. It just seemed like the parents were giving up and giving in to their children.

Yes we remind them...but doesn't stop them. Like wait until you get home. It's not going anywhere.
