That is part of the reason I am doing this, also......I do not work now.........I stay at home with my 3 yr old, but I was an elementary school teacher, and the flexibility of the nursing hours is very tempting. Also, the science classes are very challenging, so if you could put more time into them by getting the other college classes out of the way, it would be easier. I don't want to scare you......they aren't impossible........I have maintained a 4.0 through all of them, but they do require study time. Did you get any info on the testing dates?

The science section is a bit of a challenge. Use the study books they recommend to prepare and you'll be fine.

I did really well on the entrance exam. On the other hand, I studied for it for 2 months before I took it. The science section, by far, is the hardest part. They will give you a list of books to use to study.....my advice would be to study from them every chance you get. I took it without having any science background........I have a Bachelor's degree in education, but no science was required for the degree. You can do it!!!!

I didn't study for the exam, was working on science classes at the time (A&P, Micro) figured they would help. I was surprised at the amount of non-nursing science related questions.

Yeah, there were lots of them......there were even electrical questions..........like "what is an Ohm?" If I hadn't studied for it, there is no way I would have passed it. Like I said, I had no science background. Now if I took it today, after having the year of science courses at Shadyside, I think I would do fine. I passed it the first time........I have several friends who had to retake the science portion after taking a remedial class.

    HI,

I am going to be taking the pre entrance exam in a month for upmc evening/weekend nursing program? How hard is it? I have been out of high school since 99. what should i study?

Science!!!!!!! The math is just basic fractions, decimals and some easy algebra. Reading vocab is not bad...just look over the books that they recommend. However, the science is something that you should study.....they test you on all aspects of science.....not just biology etc. The books are good and they should give you a good basis to take the test. I am in the E/W program and it is great. I really enjoy it and I' m learning alot! Good luck!

Seconding Mommyjskns here. If anything, just give the other sections a once-over. The science is definitely the hardest section of the test, and the section where I scored the lowest even though I studied for it the most. There's a thread on here somewhere about studying for the NET with a link to some study guides that are free online; those were helpful.
