Salary for a Community RN New Graduate in Philly

Hello All,

After performing a search on topics that discussed the salary for new RN grads in Philly (Phila., PA), I was only able to find salary info. for RN grads that work in a hospital setting but not the community setting. Does anyone know if the starting salary for a new RN grad working in a hospital is different than the starting salary of a new RN grad working in a community setting (healthcare center, clinic, etc)? Also, would it be alright to negotiate an offer as a new graduate RN if the starting pay is less than what was mentioned in other threads (about $27 an hr. for new RN grads in Phila). Thanks.

In that thread someone said outside of Philly they made $24/hr. But she said in Philly it's closer to $30/hr

I don't know about the community setting. I would think it would be less because of cushy hours...

I graduated in May, just outside Philly, and I know of virtually no new grads who have secured hospital jobs (at least, none I graduated with!) Most of us have gotten jobs in skilled nursing or rehab facilities - making between 26-32 an hour. As for negotiating...you can certainly try, but I don't think you'll b very successful, because you're not really in any position of power as a new grad with no experience.

In most markets, there is very little to no difference in pay between the two.

The majority of Philly hospitals want Bsn and this is one of the reason am in a Bsn program

Low to mid $20s for community clinics ( outpatient offices, county health departments etc) in philly and suburbs.

I'm a new ASN grad making $41/hr in outpatient clinic. I think I lucked out as I've heard most other people making no more than $31/hr-$32/hr.
