Hello, sunshyne! I agree that this board is mostly run by education programs. I don't know why they felt the need to combine them. Anyway, I haven't started working at my new job yet (not until 2/10), but I did pass the NCLEX on Tuesday. I feel so ready to get to work. I got an OR job in Williamsport. It's about a 25 minute commute and I will be working rotating days. My coworkers are really young from what I've experienced in OR's before, so I look forward to that. My director seems very open and wants nurses who are ready to take on leadership roles. I'm a big fan of that.

I can't answer most of your questions because I haven't started yet, but I really like the idea of starting a statewide discussion. Good luck with your career!:up:

I live in a very rural part of the state. Only one hospital/medical ctr w/in 50 min drive. I just graduated in Dec and got a job at a hosp about 50 min from home. So far, I really like it. The staff is really friendly, and is very open to the rookie. I've not experienced "eating their young", and hope I don't deal with it during my training.

I do see the job market as very poor, though. I was the person in my class confirmed to have a job prior to graduation. I know of one other who has since been hired. There may have been others as well, but I don't keep in touch with everyone.

I wanted the challenge of trauma or ICU. I got hired in ICU and am thankful to have found a job. I bust my butt. When I come across something that I'm not clear on, I either ask, or make a note and then research it when I get home. Very much like being right back in school again.

foxessb1 - congrats on passing NCLEX! Is it anything like what you thought it would be?! Congrats on landing an OR job at a hospital so soon. You must have really wowed them.

11nick - I will be traveling for my job too. I am both anxious and apprehensive somehow.

I work in a hospital is Pittsburgh, drive 15 mins (3 miles) to work. Work nights only 3 shifts between M-Th. Was offered 2 jobs back in June.
