  1. Ok, another followup, just in case it helps someone... At the time of this post, in order to apply for a license by Endorsement, I had to send an email to a specific BON email address. I received an instantaneous automated reply with directions on how to apply. One of the steps is to go to a certain website (a link is provided in the email) and print the second page. This second page has the FBI ORI, and the CJIS numbers that I needed to take along to the fingerprint office. I made multiple searches on the BON site, hoping to find these numbers. I did find that other occupations had different FBI ORI and CJIS numbers, so I wanted to be sure I got the correct numbers for my occupation. I even tried a general google search, but still no luck. Earlier in the day, I couldn't get a human being on the phone when I tried to call the fingerprint office located in MD. (I live 30 minutes away- right across PA state line) I finally did get someone to answer the phone at the end of the day. I was able to confirm that they had the FBI ORI and CJIS numbers needed for MD BON. So I went there empty handed and they pulled the numbers out of a ring binder. Hopefully they knew what they were doing! They probably got sent to the Board of Basketweaving. If anyone finds this thread and is having similar problems. Call your closest fingerprint office and see if they can give you the numbers.
  2. For the sake of anyone who may have similar problems with MD BON and find this thread in the future: the place that does the fingerprints has the needed numbers on file. Flames 9: the problem I was having was that i couldn't get to the form in the first place. The link that took me to the page showing the numbers was a bad link. I couldn't get to the form that I was supposed to print off and take with me. (I don't know if that makes sense or not)
  3. I'm licensed in PA and have a new job in MD, with 10/30 start date. I need to get a MD license. I've heard all the BON horror stories, so I don't need to rehash them. What I do need is two sets of numbers that are submitted with fingerprints: CJIS Authorization number, and FBI ORI number. I have googled these numbers, but am only getting hits on these numbers as they relate to other occupations (MD, Chiropractor, LPN, etc)- not for RN. Per the MD BON site: I email this certain email address and I'll get an automated reply with a bunch of info on it. [which I get, by the way] In that email reply that I receive, I get a link that tells me to go to this web link and print it off and take it with me to get fingerprinted, as this page has the CJIS and ORI numbers needed for the prints. However, the link that is given to me in the email is a dead link... it takes me no where. I need those numbers! If, by chance, anyone has the CJIS and ORI numbers for RN fingerprinting in MD, can you please post them here? Thanks!
  4. I work in the ER, mostly 3 to 11. I'm usually ramped up when I get home and can't sleep. I applied to WGU last night when I got home. Got up this morning, go the the kids off to school, and ordered transcripts. I'm way, way ahead of the game. My life is crazy busy from May-Sept. I'm not intending on starting until Oct. I want to get everything out of the way and be locked in for Oct start so I can forget about it over the summer. Glad I got that settled. Ready to get the admissions stuff done and behind me.
  5. Just found a video link in an older thread. Someone showed how to navigate a course on the WGU site. If you complete an objective course and take the final test... can you start the next class before that final test is graded? Early in that video, it showed the entire degree broken down in a class by class list. Must the classes be taken consecutively as they are listed? Or can you take them in any order? Thanks again
  6. Reading on older posts, I see people had concerns about the pass/fail and 3.0 final grade from WGU. I don't see this complaint as much in the more recent posts. I also saw a post where someone got into CRNA school, having gone to WGU for earlier degrees. A legitimate question: Is there any concern with this concept? Even though some of you who are reading this have gone through the WGU program... is there anywhere you can envision that this may be a hindrance to you in the future? I'm not really looking for a reason to go to WGU. I'm trying hard to find a reason not to. I'm willing to pick a different school, but the way the classes work with WGU... it is so hard to not jump on it. With the negativity I've read in older posts, it's also hard not to walk away. second question... in other classes I've taken, I often had a study buddy. I'd help them with a tough concept. They'd proof my paper. Etc. Is there any benefit to having a study buddy with this type of program? You would almost have to be synced with each other in order to scratch each others back, wouldn't you? Otherwise, person A would be ahead of person B all the time, and just be "carrying" B... rather than getting any reciprocal help from B. Do/did you have people in the program that you worked with? Or do you just go solo? Thanks so much for your time.
  7. I'm applying to a BSN program with stats under by belt. I have no religions or nutrition course. I have a Chem w/ lab, but was taken 20 years ago. 1. Reading the many different experiences with WGU, I'm seeing a variety of experiences people have had concerning pre-req's. I currently hold an Associates RN and work in an ER. Would anyone care to venture a guess as to whether WGU would require me to take any pre-req courses prior to taking the core nursing courses? 2. do they have a payment plan if I can't pay the full tuition up front? 3. My life is busy through the summer. I understand the first class or two must be finished right away, and with a deadline. If I would be accepted and finish those first couple classes right away, could I literally do no other work until mid-Sept with no penalty or other complaint from WGU? I had more questions when I started to type this, but they vanished somewhere into my small, dark mind as I typed the above 3 things. Will ask the rest as they wonder out of the twisted web in my head. Thanks
  8. On the NCLEX exam, you have a minimum of 75 questions. A maximum of 265 questions. Theoretically, you can get every single one of the first 75 questions wrong and still be able to get up to 71% of the (total 265) questions correct..... which would be a respectable score on such a difficult test- not to mention a passing grade. I'm assuming it would shut off if you got each of the first 75 questions wrong because you've shown utter incompetence... but I don't know that for sure. Does anyone know, or can you speculate, about the possibility of it shutting down at 75 questions AND FAILING the test? It would seem that you would have to be doing very, very poorly for it to shut off at 75 questions. Just a thought.
  9. Don't know if this will solve the problem or not.... I'm a guy. I hate plumbers crack. I have certain shirts I wear under my scrub tops. They are my longer tees so I can tuck them into my pants. One day I grabbed a different tee shirt by accident. It was shorter than the shirts I typically wear. It didn't stay tucked, and my pants fell down a lot that day. Maybe it was a fluke, but I think it has to do with the friction between my pants and the tee shirt underneath. Either way, I have worn long tee shirts ever since and I never have problems with my pants falling down.
  10. I have Aviators. I like them, too. My favorites.... Carhartt Ripstop. Cargo pockets on the pants, and they have a 'Multi-pocket' shirt that has lots of pockets. I just bought another set. They are made from a different sort of fabric. They aren't heavy and thick like Aviators, but the weave feels "industrial" (sorry, can't think of a better word). Love em
  11. I live in a very rural part of the state. Only one hospital/medical ctr w/in 50 min drive. I just graduated in Dec and got a job at a hosp about 50 min from home. So far, I really like it. The staff is really friendly, and is very open to the rookie. I've not experienced "eating their young", and hope I don't deal with it during my training. I do see the job market as very poor, though. I was the person in my class confirmed to have a job prior to graduation. I know of one other who has since been hired. There may have been others as well, but I don't keep in touch with everyone. I wanted the challenge of trauma or ICU. I got hired in ICU and am thankful to have found a job. I bust my butt. When I come across something that I'm not clear on, I either ask, or make a note and then research it when I get home. Very much like being right back in school again.
  12. I was done with school Dec 17. Due to a screw up in the nursing dept, they never posted the degrees to our transcripts (which the BON needs to see). That wasn't discovered until last week. So, I should be one the road to getting an ATT now. I have a job, too, and today was my first day. I was able to start with my temp license. Job market is tough. There 'may' be someone else from my class who has a job, but I'm the only one that I know of who has been hired.
  13. Found out today that my blessed nursing dept posted grades to our transcripts. BUT FORGOT TO POST THE DEGREE. As I said, I went to a MD school. Only a handful of us were from PA. The transcripts were sent to the BON without the degree listed. Hence, no ATT number. I have since learned that an error occurred on some members of the previous graduating class. Sounds like some folks in that office need to get their head out of their ASSending rectal canal. That's me. One of the few, the proud, the screwed.
  14. I did a search for information, but didn't get any results that were helpful. I did find some results, but they were 5 years old. I didn't know how reliable the info would be. I'm currently signed up for RN to BSN, and will be starting pre requisite classes next week. It is my intention to move forward with masters and beyond if I don't burn out. I never considered the RN to MSN option until the last few days. I need to weigh this option out, but don't really know where to begin. If I would go through with it, it would have to be fully online. From what I've read, it seems like it will most likely save me some time, and possibly some money. Do I simply need to worry about accreditation (CCNE? Regional?) if I want to move toward AP nursing? Are all MSN degrees the same.... or are some only applicable if a person is intending on going in a certain direction with their career? What yard sticks do I need to consider here? I narrowed down my options for the BSN program pretty quick. This seems to be a horse of a different color, though. Thanks for your help.
  15. I'm giving BON the benefit of the doubt. We did just come through Christmas and New Years holidays. Have busy week ahead of me. May check with records office at school to verify that transcripts were sent out after the degree conferred. If it went out, I'll wait until end of week to contact BON if I haven't heard anything. I'll have to look, but by end of week, I'm thinking 14 days should be up. Thanks!
