LaSalle Achieve Fall 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

For years, I was reluctant to apply to LaSalle while finishing my pre-reqs at CCP. I guess I was intimidated, countless people told me to apply...but I put it off, fearing rejection. May 2012, I finally applied...studied for the NLN on-and-off the entire summer...received a high overall score on the entrance exam over 100... Sci. GPA of 3.25, Overall: 3.13. Received my "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter" from LaSalle in Sept (2012) and have been living vicariously through current students in the program now.

I have signed up for the last of my required pre-reqs at LaSalle so I can get a "feel" of their grading style and going to a large university. I know the official nursing acceptance letters won't go out until May 2013, and I shouldn't get my hopes up ...but I've worked so hard (and will continue to!) and hope that things will continue to work out favorably.

Has anyone else received their "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter"? Does that letter mean, if we continue on doing well and meet the required deadlines...that it "should" work out in our favor? Oh the anxiety...well I'll be practicing my conversions and studying.

Take away message: Don't get in your own way...and everything and anything is possible if you give it your all!

Intending Nursing, Fall 2013

Hi Coconoir1908! I have not registered yet to take the exam. I haven't had much time to study and I'm not sure how much time I need yet. I think I still have plenty of time to take it? I know if you screw up, you can retake it in 6 months, but I just got an email on accident from La Salle about applicants for Fall 2013 and class starts in a few weeks! Have you registered yet?

I haven't had much time to study either. I wanted to take the exam Sept 10th but I'm wondering if I should wait until they post dates for October so that I can prepare. What other schools are you looking into?

I just took the exam a few weeks ago and passed. One thing you need to know is that La Salle requires you to get at least 40 points in each category. They do not look at overall score. There is verbal, math, and science. The verbal was the trickiest for me. They have some vocabulary words that you've never heard of before. My advice would be to study the most common sat words, use freerice.com, and to take your time!! Don't rush through it and in the end guess! Don't leave anything blank. The math section is exactly as the book offers and the science is a lot of physics / interpreting graphs, charts. There is little a&p on there.

YAY, CONGRATS!!

Thanks for the information! Did you use any supplemental material? How long did you study prior to taking the test?

I think I'd rather take it later and really prepare. I'm hoping to only take it once! I'll have a lot more time next week to really study so maybe I can have a better gauge on how much time I need. I'm not looking at any other schools. I got into 's ACE program but I decided that it's too expensive and risky to quit my job. La Salle is a lot better choice for me financially. I don't really know if any other good part time programs. Are you looking at other schools? Are there other part time night programs?

Hello

I am also applying for Fall 2014. I order my book for the NLN exam as well. I also applied to Harcum College evening 18 month program and Gwynedd Mercy College weekend program

I hope I really get into Lasalle Achieve program because I want a BSN instead of a ASN do not want to go back for RN-BSN.

I totally agree with you! I'm looking into taking the exam in October or November, that way it will leave time if I have to retake it. However; I'm planning to do all that I can to pass the first time around.

I can not afford to quit my job, as I will be paying for my tuition out of pocket. I know that students loans are not an option for me as I hold a masters. As far as schools, I have looked into Neumann University and Rutgers, however; the latter only has PT day program. It seems that PT evening programs are few and far between for those seeking a BSN

I'm with you unique2. I have a friend in Harcum currently, and although he loves the program, he will have to go back for his RN-BSN. Maybe we should start a 2014 thread.

Yes we should start a 2014 thread. I plan to take my test in Nov as well.

I have my Bachelors already too. I applied to the other schools just to have a plan B. I had a cousin that graduated from Harcum Nursing this May. Hope we get in and pass the NLN on first try.

Hello RobynPSU

Iam also applying for Lasalle Achieve Program Fall 2014. I really hope I get in and pass the NLN test. I would really think I will be upset if I don't because I paid for background checks for philly and Jersey. Iam from Jersey. I also applied to Harcum College 18 month ASN program and Gwynedd Mercy ASN weekend program as a backup.

Hi unique2! I really hope we get in and pass the NLN exam as well! I don't really have a back up plan. I already spent a lot of money on pre-reqs. Some of them were already a waste because required them and La Salle doesn't. What is your first bachelors in?

Coconoir1908 - what is your masters in? I had thought about the ASN route just because it would be faster to becoming a nurse, but then I would definitely want to finish my BSN so I wasn't sure if that would make sense?

My bachelors is in criminal justice. I really don't want to do ASN because would have to go back for BSN eventually because some jobs require or prefer it.
