LaSalle Achieve Fall 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

For years, I was reluctant to apply to LaSalle while finishing my pre-reqs at CCP. I guess I was intimidated, countless people told me to apply...but I put it off, fearing rejection. May 2012, I finally applied...studied for the NLN on-and-off the entire summer...received a high overall score on the entrance exam over 100... Sci. GPA of 3.25, Overall: 3.13. Received my "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter" from LaSalle in Sept (2012) and have been living vicariously through current students in the program now.

I have signed up for the last of my required pre-reqs at LaSalle so I can get a "feel" of their grading style and going to a large university. I know the official nursing acceptance letters won't go out until May 2013, and I shouldn't get my hopes up ...but I've worked so hard (and will continue to!) and hope that things will continue to work out favorably.

Has anyone else received their "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter"? Does that letter mean, if we continue on doing well and meet the required deadlines...that it "should" work out in our favor? Oh the anxiety...well I'll be practicing my conversions and studying.

Take away message: Don't get in your own way...and everything and anything is possible if you give it your all!

Intending Nursing, Fall 2013

Hi Angie-Baby...

I'm so sorry to hear that you did not get into LaSalle. When searching for programs I looked at Neumann, they have (in 2012) an evening program. I don't know how it compares to LaSalle but I guess it's worth a look...and Cedar Crest College has one (but it's in Allentown).

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.
ok I'm so confused right now. I have a 3.48 overall GPA, a 3.67 science GPA and I didn't get into the university. I know I got a 126 on the NLN but I thought I'd still get in. I know people who didn't even meet the required GPA or got lower scores on the NLN and still got in. What's the problem? When you looked into LaSalle, did anyone else find any other part time programs where I could still work full-time?[/quote']

(HUGS) is there a chance you are able to get into the Spring session at Bucks???

As far as other applicants, the reality is that nursing programs, such as LaSalle, and others, look at the "whole package"as well as have a mix of applicants that they choose to select in a program.

Please reach out to Holy Family, Neumann, Villanova, and I think Drexel have a part time program as well...Check out West Chest as well.

This may be a setback, however take it as determination to achieve your goal. I has to wait TWO years to get into this program, by other unforeseen setbacks...they saw this as a plus, and I am an alumni. It will happen! :)

Hi everybody

I am now a nuring student at LaSalle day program. The professors are wonderful and will go the extra mile to help you. The assistant deanis the best. It is rwlly a wondeful school. I will graduate in May '14.

Syfa, So how was your first semester...was it what you expected? How did you manage your time studying?

HeatherL, is there any one thing that is truly important to have your first year (i.e. an additional study guide). I've followed your advice and made all my appointments the end of this month/beginning of May. I guess we'll know if we are officially accepted soon.

Sooo I just got my acceptance letter! It's a pending acceptance though. Apparently I didn't get a sufficient score on the math part of the NLN. So to be fully accepted I'd have to pay for and retake the test over again, which is something I do NOT want to do. I live 2 hours away and taking off work during the week isn't really in the cards for me. Plus I got accepted somewhere else too. So it's all up in the air for me.

So just a heads up if anyone else hasn't gotten a letter yet. It should be around soon!!

Good luck to everyone!!

Hey,

Thanks God I'm almost dine with exam. For people starting this fall I would advise you to make sure you do all your readings + assignments. Always be 2 step ahead. And most importantly if you have any problem don't wait; ask for help immediatly.

I got my acceptance letter on Sunday! I honestly forgot about my application, because I didn't expect to get in with all the competition for nursing programs nowadays. I'm super excited and I can't wait until the orientation. Congrats to everyone!

It's official!! I'm IN!! Hot Diggity!

Congrats!! The hard work gonna begin now!

Hi Leemy4Me! How hard has it been to work full time, do this program and maintain a life? How often do you have clinicals - every Saturday? Do you have time off between semesters?

It's def possible to work full time in this program, especially if you have some down time at work to study. As far as a social life, it gets tough but I still make time to see family and friends. And it's a huge plus that my fiancé and I live together. We have clinical (usually) every other weekend, both sat & sun for 8 hrs. One semester, it was every saturday OR Sunday for 12 hrs. Depends on the classes that semester. And yes, there is a break between semesters; 1 month between fall and spring, 1.5 weeks between spring and summer, and about 3 weeks between summer and fall.

To be honest, I heard so many people say how hard nursing school is, but I wouldn't say hard. It's a lot of busy work because clinical has its own paperwork in addition to studying and all that for class. Once you learn how to balance everything with work and family, it gets better. But there are times when the semester is crazy start to finish. I'm not trying to brag but I have never earned lower than a B in this program. That was my personal goal that I set, to never get below a B, not even a B-. And let me tell you, I'm not the most hardcore student at all. There are times when I start studying for a test the day of! But I know my limit and I know what I need to do. I can be lazy and procrastinate, but I know when to kick my brain into gear also. Once you get used to "thinking like a nurse" during the exams, they become easier. Sometimes you have to literally imagine yourself in that patients room and think "ok what do I do first." But that will take some time. My best advice to you is to never be that student whose final exam determines whether they pass the class. I've seen some of my classmates in complete turmoil over that and it just adds extra stress to an already stressful test!!
