Specializes in Skilled Care, Sub-Acute.

Hi everbody. I just moved to the Lancaster area last month from LongIsland,NY. I already have a job, but already I see some differences than nursing in NY. Just looking to make some friends and gain some insight.:aln:

Are you working at LGH? I work there and I am a new nurse.

No, I am not working @ LGH. I'm actually trying a different style of nursing than i'm used to. I'm the Resident Services Nurse @ Willow Valley. We provide care(emergency and routine) to the residents of independant living as well as the employees. VERY different from what i've experienced in the past working in acute/skilled care.

Where did you do your RN? I'm looking to furthur my education now that i'm settled on my place of residence. Do you know if PA recognizes online programs like excellsior/college network?

Are you a LPN? I know that Lancaster does have a LPN to RN and a RN to BSN program. I graduated from Brandywine which is in Chester County about 45min from LGH. I am not sure about the online programs but I think PA does recognize them and you can sit for NCLEX

good luck

What sort of things are different? I'm not a nurse yet, but lived in NYC for 3 years and grew up in Central New York. We've thought about relocating back to NYC when I'm through school.

To be honest, i'm not sure what are the legal differences. This is purely observatinal. PA seems to be a little more laid back on alot of nursing issues, such as narcotics, documentation, staffing guidelines. Nothing major, nursing is nursing after all no matter where you live.:nurse:

Welcome to PA from one former LIGAL to another. I grew up on LI and my parents still live there. I visit every few months.

I don't know about nursing practice btw the 2 states. However I can tell you from my current job, that NY has OODLES more laws and does OODLES more audits of companies doing business in the finance industry in NY state than PA does. Just thought I'd share that. I hope it made sense even though I'm being intentionally vague so as to protect my identity.... I prefer to remain anonymous on the 'net and you never know who may be reading.
