HELP- nurse aide fee repayment?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi everyone!

I hope someone can help me out with this one. I am a new CNA ( just got my cert. last month) in PA and I was employed by a private nursing home. There is a law that if you are employed, the employer must pay the exam fees. They did, but since then they terminated me  (for calling off, and it was my first time!) and now I just got a letter in the mail saying that they want me to repay them for the exam fee they had already paid for. I was just wondering if this was legal, and do I have to pay them back?

Thanks,

K

Wow, I'm sorry to hear your going through this. Are you sure such a law exists? I asked my employer once if they would pay for me to get certifed and they said no, I would have to pay for it out of pocket or work uncertified. So, I work uncertifed. :D

On pages 4 and 5 it describes their financial obligations

If you were working at a long term care facility at the time of examination they are required to pay. As far as I can see - they have no way of requesting reimbursement from you.

on this page there is a telephone number to call the department of public welfare to ask specific questions about facilities financial obligations:
