Either going there now, or even graduated would work. I'm just curious to know what their program is like since i just got accepted and was curious as to what to expect in the first semester. Or, if your just starting there this fall maybe we could meet up as study buddies, I have 2 other friends who've been there with me for the past two semesters now and we have a pretty good group if you'd like to join in!!

hello. I just asked the same question. I applied online and I lve in Youngstown, Ohio but want to relocate so I can go to CCAC. Let me know if you get answers before I do.

I graduated last May. I'm really happy with my education, but the quality seems to vary from campus to campus.

I was thinking of going to the Allegheny Campus. What campus did you attend?

I'm goin to south campus, I'll start in the fall. Were the instructors really as bad as I've heard?? cause i heard they tell you to like drop out and that you'll never pass so just give up and stuff. Not that I will listen cause i hate when someone tells me i can't do soething but i was just curious.

I've heard the same about the CCAC instructors.. a male friend of mine told me the instructors are "eat their young" brutal and actually seem happy when people have to withdraw.. he's not a catty sort at all so I'm worried!

Anyone have any input on the summer drug calc class? Is it necessary or could I just get the book and figure it out myself? (summer babysitting issues).

Oh! Almost forgot.. My friends who got in last year went to their orientation and told me that the instructors asked the crowd "who here has kids? a job? a spouse? more classes than just the nursing classes to take?" and when people would raise their hands the instructors would *tsk tsk* and say "well you're never going to get through the program." At orientation!!

I only have micro left as far as non core classes but sheesh, why does the school have that nifty little printout on the site advertising nursing as a 2 year program wherein you take A&P, psych, etc with the nursing, if they act like that?

As it is when I finish (accepted for Fall 06 at North) it will have taken me 3.5 years total.

I'm excited though,.. even if the instructors are mean they must be doing something right as the NCLEX pass rate here is decent.

I finished in two years, but it was tough taking A&P along with the nursing classes. I also took the CLEP tests for English 102 and Intro to Psych. I knew I would not have time to be writing a bunch of papers. I had previous credits from HS for Calculus and English 101. The other thing I lucked out on was my Chemistry just making it under the 10 year mark.

I wouldn't worry about the instructors. They are tough, but they want to be sure you know that some things are going to have to take a back burner. They also want to make sure you are serious about being there. As for them being mean, you're there as an adult. They're not there to hold your hand. I never really had a problem with any instructor save one and she was suppossed to be one of the "nice" ones. Go figure.

As for being prepared for the NCLEX, it was easier than any test I took for my Nursing classes. I think I finished in about 25 minutes. It almost scared me though. The tests in school I thought I aced I wound up doing poorly on. Man was I relieved when I saw a RN license number when I looked up my name a few days after the test! Whew!

Hi Rachel,

I just finished my 1st year at CCAC south. I won't lie....it was tough. Especially 2nd semester (med/surg). Most of the instructors are nice, just be prepared for your classes and have assignments done on time and you won't have any problem. Take advantage of open skills lab for practice and the tutor is wonderful.

Pharm math was a big help for me...I aced every math test given.

Best Wishes.

I just graduated from CCAC South campus. I can tell you that most of what you hear is true. (unfortunately). I think the teachers have running bets on who will quit and when. I did NOT think I would graduate, but I took the advice of a friend who said just stay below their radar and that seemed to help. I want to add that alot of the student body there seem "high maintenance" like they deserve to be handed their books on a silver platter. Some of them got what they asked for. My biggest complaint was that sometimes we would not have instructors for class or clinical and the lab was NEVER open when I needed it. I also spent the last year on 2 separate ICU's, which was awesome, but I missed out on how to handle large patient loads. The most patients that I ever had was 3. The structure there needs to change, but overall you will learn if you take control of your education. They will not cater to telling you what you should've learned in A&P or Micro. Let me know if you need more help.. I'd be glad to share my experiences with you.

I was wondering if anyone on here from our area has graduated, attended, attending, or just heard anything about CCBC(beaver county). i am starting the ADN program in the fall and i just am searching for some heads up on what to expect. i was going to go to CCAC as my backup plan, but i got in at CCBC and you know it is to get into Nursing school, go where you can get in. Any info would be great.

Also i heard CCBC and CCAC had similar structured programs, is this true.

Last but not least i want to hear all about clinical!! Your first clinical, last, where you are now. Just want to know what to expect.

Thanks

Andy
