graduating 12/11 & relocating to MD - job & housing ?'s

I will be joining my husband end of December 2011 after graduating with an ADN (I already had a BS and I was a pediatric med asst in pvt practice for 2 yrs before RN school). From what I can tell, the job market for new grads in MD is just as bad as it is here in AZ. When is it best to start looking since I am coming from out of town?

Can anyone recommend any new grad pediatric programs and, other than designated children's hospitals, which hospitals have good pediatric floors? Is it better to try to get into a new grad pediatric program to gain skills/knowledge or is any pediatric job (if you can get one!!) okay?

My husband is working in Germantown but I'm not sure yet where we will be living. My kids and I will be coming out in July to start looking at towns. From what we understand, schools are best in Rockville but the housing looks so old to me (as well as pricey!). Schools looked pretty good in the Ellicot City & Columbia areas and that commute may not be too bad for my husband. Also, these areas looked newer and more affordable. Commute-wise, we could do Northern VA Fairfax county area (Oakton or Vienna). Anyone know anything about hospitals down there? Is the job situation any better in VA?
