I am a frequent reader of this site but I have never posted anything. I just landed a new grad position for this summer at a local children's hospital on a medical unit and I am so excited. I have been busting my behind since graduating last May working two jobs trying to get to my dream.

I also wanted to give hope to other new grads who may not have jobs or working in a less desirable job that it can happen. Even a year after graduating. This site has been really helpful and its nice to hear from new and experienced nurses. Any tips on what I should brush up on would be greatly appreciated. ;):yeah:

Congrats and hope you enjoy your new job. It's nice to read these positive and happy threads.

All the best for the future:up:

Specializes in Telemetry.

This is just what i wanted to see!

i am here to see if new grads can get pediatric positions, and here is one example. congratulations! :)

congrats!

@ Gina Cat, my DD1 will graduate with a BSN in June and got offered a job in Peds Cardiovascular ICU. Good luck to you if you are still looking for a job and I hope you find a job that you really love.

Hi UCI&USFMom,

My daughter was accepted into the nursing program at UCI for Fall 2011. I was wondering if you could give me some information about the program. Also, where did your daughter volunteer during school? Thanks!

Congrats! DD1 volunteered consistently at UCI Outreach Clinic and Kaiser. There are plenty of hospitals also where your daughter can volunteer to such as HOAG and CHOC. There are also paid jobs such as Senior Hosp Asst or CNA, just look around. There is Camp Med volunteering at UCI as well.

About the program, it's pretty much on the website under Health Sciences. Need to

maintain grades and everything is explained on the website. Make her take Chemistry

refresher class if she needs to. Need to be focused coz if she fails a class Junior or

Senior year she will wait one year to retake the class.

Lots of communication will help her just to listen. My daughter is graduating next Saturday and secured a RN Residency job at UCLA. Lots of leadership skills will help

your daughter shine on interviews. Make her join the NSA, Nursing Student Assoc

Lastly, lots of prayers. I had to do this because my DD1 have Lupus and missed 2 quarters freshman year with numerous hospitalization and treatment. She managed to get caught up and will graduate on time with her batchmates . Again goodluck!

Thanks UCI&USFmom! I'm sorry to hear about your DD's illness. It's inspirational to hear that even with the illness, your DD was able to graduate on time. I can see that she has a strong will so it's not surprising that she was selected for the residency spot. Congratulations! I hear that those spots are very limited.

I was curious about the quality of the clinical training, research opportunities and support/resources provided by the program. I know that UCI has a great reputation, but understand that the nursing program is fairly new. Do you know if most (hopefully all!) of her classmates passed the NCLEX exam? Thanks!

No one from her class has taken the NCLEX yet. They will not get any NCLEX exam dates until after graduation because UCI needs to provide the Board of Nursing their transcripts or proof that they had graduated.

Clinical rotations were great within UCI Medical Center and the surrounding hospitals. UCI is a research institution. Getting into the program is already a great achievement because it's selective. There is usually over 700 maybe 1,000 applicants and they only pick 25-30? I remember my DD visits their counselors each quarter to see their progress on the program. So it is like going to a private school and yet it is UC.

RN Residency is also competitive, usually 1,000 applicants for 100 spots or maybe less.
