It helps to at least have some medical contact besides NS. I volunteered in a hospital for over a year and didn't get an Interview, lamely they only took bsns even though I was working on it. But.... I know it helped me to get an even better job in the end. I say go for it you can learn a lot evenas a volunteer

OR imo would open more doors I have a friend who went into laser as a new grad and plastics is all she is find now. If you like that then would be okay.

As adn nurse of 2010 And finishing her bsn this August I say take the job. In your area you may be lucky to get offers or they really see something great in you. Most big hospitals now wont bother with adns at least in CA and other places prefer bsn. I started part time after graduating last year doing flu clinics. It was the only job i could find. I would have taken a full time if i could get it. Most of the new grads i work with were bsn. During the year we were all still applying for full time and they were getting interviews in hospitals but not me. Most ended up getting jobs in hospitals even though they had to move. I applied to easily over 100 Jobs. Anything i applied LTC, clinics home health, hospitals. I even applied out of state. I lost count after awhile. Most places didn't want my degree but would at least interview my collegues with bsn and the same experience. Finally now after a year and working two jobs and full time at my bsn I have a great new grad job but I am very lucky. I don't mean to scare you but if you have a hospital job take it wherever it is. Bsn can wait.

You might have one pt or two in icu but they will be very busy. In many ways "heavier than medsurg" maybe try advice nursing. Or try adult medsurg. Adult medsurg at least in my observation tend to be not as challenging as children medsurg. If your heart is not in it and you are waiting for school, better to find a non-acute care job with less direct care.

From what I heard Sharp Grossmont ER is finishing their interviews today and will be letting people know sometime next week. One person told me they six positions then another said eight.

I would pick ucla. If you have nursing or medical experience it wont really matter which you choose. But with none, debt is irrevelent in this economy for nurses. Better to go to a more well known school and pay more to be marketable after you graduate since its so hard to find any nurse job masters prepared or not. Especially in Ca. Good luck

It is sad but a friend of my mom was accepted into a ns program a year early bc of being male. He didn't have any medical exp or a good gpa. Being male might help at some schools.

Hello, I was interested in getting a customized ultrascope and wanted to know if anyone has experienced the sound quality compared to the non customized or other stethescopes? I am interested in getting the ultrascope duo to have an infant and pediatric head. I will be working on a pediatric unit and thought it would be fun and helpful to have a picture of my dog on it. I know I will get a lot of heat saying this but as adn getting a bsn it has been tough finding a job. I started immediately after my adn program. I finally got a good job offer after a lot of hard work but I would advise gettting straight bsn and work and volunteer. I know bsn grads without jobs and adns too. But the bsns have better shot at an interview. Even the hospital I volunteered at for a year told me they could only hire bsns. I know it costs more among other things but you are giving yourself more trouble in the future. Try volunteering with red cross or public health they are great

I am a frequent reader of this site but I have never posted anything. I just landed a new grad position for this summer at a local children's hospital on a medical unit and I am so excited. I have been busting my behind since graduating last May working two jobs trying to get to my dream. I also wanted to give hope to other new grads who may not have jobs or working in a less desirable job that it can happen. Even a year after graduating. This site has been really helpful and its nice to hear from new and experienced nurses. Any tips on what I should brush up on would be greatly appreciated.
