Does corn cause UTI's?

If female babies and toddlers eat corn-baby food or whole-does that increase their chances of a UTI? My sister-in-law insists that my nieces not eat whole kernal corn. BUT it's ok if they eat baby food corn. I'm perplexed. The only way that I can think of them getting a UTI is that when they have a bm(we all know what corn does to our digestive system)that they are not being wiped front to back. Corn is corn, right? Thankfully, they haven't had a UTI, but then again they haven't had whole corn. Is this a myth or is there truth to this? I'd appreciate any feedback on this.

Hello, bethin. :balloons: Common food causes include wheat, soy, dairy, citrus fruits, eggs, corn syrup, and, corn.

I have never had a pedi patient have a UTI secondary to corn, but, it is possible.

Siri,

Can you explain how these food items cause UTIs? Thanks.

Hello, Jolie,:nurse:

It is thought these foods irritate the bladder and can lead to the development of UTIs. Not so much because they cause bacteria to grow, but, the child will avoid urinating because of the irritation and therefore develop the UTI.

As I said, I have never had a pedi patient with UTI directly related to corn, but, have had the patient develop UTI from irritation after ingesting coke, orange juice, milk, wheat.....

Thanks! That makes sense. I was trying to figure out the link between food and bacterial growth.
