Does this sound like something that will help a new CNA land a Patient Care Tech job at a hospital?

This course is designed to prepare students to function in the role of a patient care technician (PCT) in an acute care setting. Content includes: advanced nursing assistant skills, dietary procedures, respiratory therapy techniques, basic phlebotomy skills and basic cardiac monitoring set-up and techniques.

Would you pay for this kind of training?:uhoh3: Or would you go for maybe EMT-B? I feel like you need to have more than just your CNA to get a Hospital job.

What do you think?

I am so glad you posted this question, because i am also wondering about the program! Do you know how much it costs and does financial aid cover it?

I checked at Kiswaukee College about something similar, but there is nothing..not even medical assisting there!

Hope someone answers soon..:)

The program credits total 7.5, for in-district $95.00 a credit hour. And I think for out of district students the cost is $264.43 a credit hour. But you need to already be a CNA in IL to even register for the program. I just registered today and will start Jan 18th. There are two pre-reqs that are a part of the program so I will be taking three classes for the PCT program. I will post about my progress when I'm not studying or in clinical. When I finish I may even go for the PCT certification from the NHA.

I'm still trying to see if I really want to be a nurse so I hope this will help me out.:hdvwl:

So there is no financial aid offering for this program? You are paying out of pocket?

I am in connecticut now for a few weeks, but i am a c.n.a in illinios.

Let me know how everything is turning out for you..my dream is to eventually become a nurse but there has been so many obstacles..i am still at the c.n.a point.

Hopefully i can register for classes in the summer or fall...do you think pct is the same as medical assistant!

Good Luck...of course this will help you out in deciding and also give you a step up from c.n.a!:yelclap:

I am taking the PCT class at WCC starting in a few weeks. I finished the CNA class in July (I took it over the summer at WCC) and also took the other two classes that are needed to get into the PCT class (medical terminology and communications for the health care career). I am so hoping the this class will help me get a job at a hospital because that is the only reason that I am taking this class. My plan is to work as a CNA until I am done with my PCT class in May then by that time I will have at least 6 months experience working as CNA and will have taken the PCT class.. I hope that will be enough to get a job at a hospital!

BTW - the CNA class is only 7 credits, not 7.5. The PCT class is 4.5 credits.

Thats great! I'm taking the PCT on Jan 18th.:yeah: I'm glad that I'm not the only one on this site that's working on this. The 7.5 is the total for the program including medical terminology HIT105 and communications for the health care career COM125. I'm taking all of the classes at the same time, I hope thats not going to be to much for me in homework but I just got to do it.:uhoh3: I passed the CNA Nov 12th.

The medical terminology class was a breeze.. easy A. The COM125 class wasn't bad either. I hope the PCT class isn't a killer but I'm SO excited to learn new skills. I checked online and there are only 5 people in the class - including me and you. I hope they don't cancel it! So are you working as a CNA now? Did you do your CNA class over the summer?

I did my CNA in the fall. I did get a job at a LTC but that was not for me, I may say more about that in class.;) I like you, would much rather work in a hospital. It's not that I think that the job part would be any different, but I just want to have more opportunity to do different things helping all types of people.
