PN interview prep

  1. I am interviewing next week for a 20-hr/wk parish/faith community nurse job in a neighboring county. The program is administered by a prominent health system in my area. I have a good idea why I want to pursue the position and what I can offer to this community. I do not know specifically what this particular church is looking for in a nurse, but I would appreciate any info you can give on how I might prepare for the interview with the hospital. Thank you in advance, and God bless!

Good luck, RN007. I hope this goes well for you. I've noticed a program where the PN is shared among several churches.

Keep me posted. I'd like to know how it goes.

Thanks, mauxtav8r. Good to hear from you again. This will be in addition to the 24-hr/wk job I already do. I look forward to hearing what they (the program coordinator and director of Pastoral Care at Baptist Downton) have to say. I'll keep you posted.

    Hello R007

So glad to hear of your interest in parish nursing.

A few questions and comments for you to consider as you contemplate this job.

I assume you will be an employee of Baptist Hospital and under the Pastoral Care Department. Will you receive benefits as a hospital employee such as vacation, sick days, etc.?

How many hours will you be working as a Parish Nurse?

Are your hours and schedule flexible or will you be expected to work certain days? As a parish nurse, I set my own hours.

Who will you report to at the hospital and at the church?

Has this church had a parish nurse before? If so, have you contacted her?

If you are the first parish nurse at this church, what is their understanding of what your job entails?

I have been a Parish Nurse for about 10 years and I will be happy to answer any questions you have either on this site or via pm.

    Good luck with the interview.
