Hi Mavrick, so far I have reviewed the PESI certification course via CD, reviewed suggested topics by colleagues and of course currently practicing questions. I guess I am just nervous about the unknown. I really want to be certified asap as I am currently working on moving up the clinical ladder.

A very good series of Study Guides that also provide CEUs by Specialty Health Education is available. One is named Questions and Answers in Perianesthesia Care but there are about 6 of them total. Our unit bought one of each with our education money. Each nurse got the CEUs from one and left the booklet at work for reference. Perianesthesia Nursing by Cecil Drain is a good reference book not so much a study guide. The Core Curriculum is organized as an outline and very difficult to study from. I would not recommend it.

By knowing you're going be tested soon, you can pay extra attention to what you do every day in your work. Ask about rationale from your Anesthesiologists. Why is this patient getting Toradol and the other one didn't?

Maximize your test-taking skills by:

-knowing where you are going on test day

-leave home in plenty of time to get there

-eat a reasonable breakfast

-wear comfortable clothes

-take a light jacket or sweatshirt in case the room is too cool

-get a good night's sleep (no last minute cramming) You lose far more points being sleepy and misreading a question that you would ever make up with the teeny bit of knowledge you would gain.
