Legacy Versant RN Residency, Late Summer 2013

U.S.A. Oregon

Thought it would be nice to start a new thread for those of us who are applying this time around and to be able to support each other!

@alr25 I always wondered if doing a phone interview had put me at a disadvantage. I was concerned that it would and inquired with HR on their recommendation. They stressed that it made no difference if the preliminary interview was in person or over the phone.

@sand_dollar, sorry about the confusion :) As far as your question about the interview for Critical Care, they did not have me choose a time slot depending on my interest, rather it only listed times. After I scheduled my time on the website it said that I was booked for Critical Care. I did, however, put ICU as my top area of interest in the application which may be why it booked me for Critical Care. More details about my previous interview experience below.

@jsiegall37 This is my second time applying. I had applied for Summer of 2012, as I graduated in May 2012. Since we are allowed to continue to apply until we have 1 year of experience, I decided to try again this summer. At the time I lived in Illinois and my preliminary interview was over the phone. The manager who did my interview was very nice and helped to calm my nerves. After the interview, she explained that they used a spreadsheet where information was inserted (such as if we have RN experience, ADN or BSN, and highlights from the interview). This spreadsheet can then be viewed by all hiring managers, regardless of who you specifically interview with, and contains every single applicant. If your experience and application meet what they're looking for, any department may contact you for a final interview. Of course, it has been a year, so they may be doing things differently now.

During my first interview process, I was also active in a forum on allnurses.com to keep in touch with others who were applying. Many had applied 1, 2, or even 3 times before. They discussed how you are more likely to get an opportunity if you have your BSN and RN experience. It was also mentioned that it is common for Legacy to get over 500 applicants and only have 20 spots to fill. Obviously this varies, but I cannot imagine that it is vastly different. Only one girl in the forum got a job offer. She had her BSN and worked on a pediatrics unit in a hospital, I believe. Basically the more experience and certifications you have, along with a BSN, the more desirable you appear on your application.

As far as interview questions, all I remember is that they were nothing like I expected.

OH, and if you live out of state, make sure you apply for your license in Oregon ASAP so if you get a job offer you have an Oregon license! I transferred mine from Illinois to Oregon and it took about 6 weeks. It is a timely process, but Oregon makes it very easy.

Finadul04, thank you for all of the information!

When I had my in-person interview the last time, the manager I interviewed with asked me something in regards to cultures. She thought we didn't have that much diversity in Portland. I told her diversity depended on who you associate yourself with. I'm Asian and grew up playing with lots of other Asian kids as well as Caucasian kids. And of course diversity is also represented by socioeconomic class. Maybe she didn't like how I corrected her about diversity, as I did not get a second interview. Interview was with a tele manager and I have had some experience doing stress testing.

Anyhow, good luck to those that applied for their first time and those who are still going at it after numerous applications.

What area is everyone applying for? I have an intervew for peds. Any returners have tips/advice about what they are looking for?

Hey! I am interviewing for peds too!! Do you know what area is hiring?? Are from Oregon!? I am getting nervous!

Did everyone get a confirmation email about their interview? I never got anything and it wont let me log into the site to check my interview information. I wrote it all down and now I am worried that something went wrong and I am not scheduled... Please reply and let me know if you did or didn't!!

I didnt get an email confirmation either. I just signed up online and then they called me to change the time..

I was also called to change the original time i was scheduled for. the HR desk was very helpful in confirming that for me earlier in the week though. good luck.
