GPA requirements for Portland schools?

Hey everyone, I posted awhile ago about thinking of moving to Portland from the Eugene area. I have not been able to get into LCC or UCC and was wondering if I even stand a chance of getting in in Portland (PCC, Linnfield, OHSU etc) with all of my prereqs done and a cumulative GPA of approx 3.5? I know the actual requirement GPAs are usually around a 3.0 or so, but competitively....anyone going to those schools?

PCC, has one more year of a lottery entry, so no GPA requirment for them yet. As for CCC I had a 3.5 gpa in pre-reqs and did not make it to the interview both times I applied, same with MT. Hood, I appled last year never heard from them. However the schools dont soley look at gpa they look at all pre-reqs, prior degree, CNA experience, if you wok for a clinical site. Plus it really depends on the applicant pool. Last year I applied to CCC, missed the interview by 2.4 points, I took some more classes and started working at a clincial site, raised by point value by 6. I though okay this year I should get an interview, I think I missed the interview by 10 points because of the other appkicants had higher point values.

Try clark, just across the river. They do a point system but it is way easier to get in. They accept 40 students a term so a total of 120 a year. I know someone who got in with a 3.0 and she wasn't even the bottom of the barrell. Good luck

Does Clark still require a CNA license in order to apply?

OP: I can't speak for most of the schools, as I only applied to PCC and MHCC, but my advice is to apply to as many schools as you can to increase your chances of getting in somewhere, also look at the point system for the schools and do what you can to increase your points.

I applied to PCC and MHCC (3.9 GPA). PCC is hard to get into only because of the sheer volume of applicants they get...I didn't get accepted. I was accepted to MHCC, but they haven't released their acceptance statistics for this last round yet. In 2007, I think the lowest GPA accepted was 3.7 (it's on their website).

I dont know if Clark requires a CNA license but you get points for it.

Thanks so much for your input, guys. I have a friend/former coworker who just moved north to go to Clark. He has a current CNA license here in OR (as do I) and probably roughly the same amount of experience as me; but also had most of his nursing program finished before moving from out of state a few years ago. I was thinking that anything out of state would bring higher tuition; but it seems maybe there is an exception for neighboring states (OR/WA?) if that makes sense.

I will start doing my official homework soon (been watching websites and waiting for 2009 app info to go up!) and will definitely keep in mind everyone's advice.
