Getting ready for nursing apps again - Portland/Salem area

U.S.A. Oregon

Hey guys, it's about that time again to get ready to submit apps.

I applied for a few schools last year and didn't get in, but I'm not giving up!

This year I am narrowing it down and just applying to OHSU-Monmouth and CCC.

Anyone else out there feeling the stress of apps? Any app tips?

It always gives me a bad feeling in my stomach haha.

gardenstt,

so what is different about your application this year as apposed to last year? do you have more points? if so, from what points to what points? this is my first year to apply, and yes it is nerve wracking.

Well, this year I am being very careful and thorough with my applications. It makes me mad, but I will admit that last year when I applied I had some papers missing from some applications. I don't have any more points and I don't want to re-take any of my classes! I have all A's except B's in my A&P classes. Most places give you the same about of points for and A or a B in those classes. Where are you applying?

I'm applying to CCC and PCC. One of the people who reviews the apps at PCC told me the average for the accepted 2010 students had a 3.9GPA, a previous four-year degree, and 60 points.

Yes, I have heard that getting into PCC is pretty difficult, so I am not even trying there this year. I have a very good pre-requisite GPA, but my overall GPA isn't as great... it just depends on what the schools look at.

don't forget MHCC has an part-time program that is relatively new and unheard of but is accredited.

If your overall GPA is an issue, then you do have to be strategic to where you apply. Otherwise, I would apply to as many places as possible to increase your chances.

Yes, I have looked into MHCC but it's good to let others know about it. My overall GPA isn't awful (3.6), but I'm not super happy about it. I'm trying to apply to places where I know I might have a fair shot. When I heard that someone got into OHSU-Monmouth over Chemeketa, I was like "WHOA I am so applying." Almost done with my OHSU app and feeling good about it. :)
