Chemeketa 2009 Applicants

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi! I thought I'd start a new thread to see if there are any 2009 Chemeketa applicants on here.

I was an alternate last year and am hoping to be accepted in this year's program.

Just thought we could touch base and "nail bite" together. :) Haha... ;)

Congrats tb_pdx!! :)

Yeah, I'm already attacking that book list. A previous student told me to plan for around $1000 for books Fall term. I haven't got them all priced yet, but for the most part, they're coming up at least 1/2 off in the new/used section of Amazon. I haven't checked allibris and half.com yet.

I'm alternate #13 for the 2009 program. Competition is tough but since I had a 310 I know that all the alternates from last year that re-applied should have made it. There's no other way to beat that score, lol! :yeah: Congrats jennie_dennise! I heard that last year they got down to alternate 17. Not sure if that is accurate or not, but 13 is my lucky number....one of my son's was born on Friday the 13th! LOL! They only send out immunization letters to the first 10 though, so I'm being optimistic.

Hey, I'm new here and was alternate #6 for 2009. My friend was #1 and got "the call" about 2 weeks ago. I don't know anyone else with a better number, so if you were 2-5 lemme know so I know how close I am. This year all the shots and CPR requirements are due Aug. 3rd....so maybe the call will come after that!!! Congrats to all who have gotten in this year....no small feat!!!!!

Welcome to allnurses, Claudrian! I must admit, it's quite addictive. :)

We couldn't turn in our acceptance letters until July 6th...and they're due (along with all the vaccines and stuff) by August 3rd. So, yes, after August 3rd, several alternates should be getting "the call." Being #6, it seems like you've got a pretty good chance.

Good luck! :)

Jenniedennise-

Do you have any idea what fall term will be like? How many days a week will we be in school? I can't believe that we have to wait until the week before to find out the details, it makes planning impossible. At the CPR class this week, there were several 2nd year students, but I didn't get a chance to get detailed info about 1st year.

Claudrian-

I also think you have a good chance being alternate #6.

I totally agree - I've got a 2-year-old that I've got to set up child care for, etc...so, I emailed Karen Haury (the Associate Dean's secretary) a couple times with my questions. She's been SO sweet...super helpful. She emailed me a rough-draft of the syllabus for fall term! She said things were still up for changes, but for the most part, it shows what to expect.

We have class on Monday and Wednesday - it's mostly 8-Noonish...but there isn't a really definite end time every day...some days it's like 11:30, others it goes until 3.

Then, we have lab for a few weeks on Thursday and Friday. That was mostly 8-3ish, if I remember right. Then, once we start clinicals, they are 6am (ack!) - 1:45pm both days. (I knew that was coming...but I'm still NOT looking forward to it. I'm so not a morning person.)

Then, there are random Tuesdays that we have to go in for skills checkoffs. Those look like they're just 1/2 hour - 1 hour time blocks...

Hope that helps!

Hey Everyone!

There's been a Facebook group set up for our class...if you search "Chemeketa" on Facebook, it should come up.

The title of the group is: Nursing Students ~ Fall 2009 ~ Chemeketa Community College.

It should be a good way to get to know each other before school starts. :)

I called the school last week and they've already accepted alternates 1-3. So....#6...you are getting REALLY close! :yeah:

Jenniedennise, thanks for all of the information. Only two months to go!!!!

Congrats to all of you having been accepted for fall term. :yeah:I totally understand what your feeling, anxiety level, nervousness, frustrated about the unknown, etc. I've survived and you will too. I'm getting ready to start my 2nd year at CCC so if anyone has any questions regarding the program, books, supplies, etc...I'd be happy to provide any information I can to help you.

Hi, Lori!

Welcome to all the newbies to the nursing program. I'm a 2nd year also. I'm happy to help with any info that I can as well. I have the original 106 calendar and syllabus that they gave us on the computer still (I keep everything that I can). If anyone wants to see what it looked liked last year I would be happy to send it. I don't think that it could have changed too much. PM me your email if you want it. Have a great rest of summer!

Hi, Lori and Joshua! Right now, I'm #2 on the CURRENT alternate list (I've moved up a lot!) and I've been invited to prepare for Fall term, attend Orientation, and sit in on the 1st week of classes. Now, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for at least 2 more people to change their mind, have life interfere with their plans (in a good and gentle fashion) or decide the program is harder than they thought it would be. I MUST get my RN license, my family is counting on me, and I could wait until 2010 if I have to, but the waiting and sacrifices are awfully hard on my loved ones. So, here is my question: when you two started LAST year, did you have some people drop out during the first week of class?

Thanks for your help,

Ann
