CCC - Nursing program

Anyone in the Chemeketa community college -- CCC - Nursing program? How hard is it to get into? I have a 3.76 and figure that's a high enough GPA? I did this on the scoresheet they provide on the website. I'm just nervous bc I really want to enter before one of my A&P classes expire. I know that OHSU's pre-reqs don't but it's so expensive.

At CCC, how do clinicals work? Are the clinicals mostly in Salem-Albany-Corvallis area or are there opportunities in Portland? What are the clinical shifts -- are does it vary alot?

one of my clinical instructors is a '99 grad of chemeketa, and a girl in my class did her prereq's there but i really don't have any helpful information. my teacher described herself as a 'survivor' of CCC and said that when she was in school, everyone had a 4.0 in prereq's...that's all that I have heard. i'm at the other CCC- clatsop community college in astoria. good luck!

Hi! I know this is a little late, but I am applying to CCC on the 11th. As long as you have 4.0 in all prereqs, you stand a good chance of getting in. I know that people that live in the Chemeketa district get extra points, so I think they are in first. I'm not sure how clinicals work, but my coworkers friend is in her first year right now and I know she works somewhere either in Salem, or not far away. Best of luck!

How do you like Clatsop Community Colleges program? I start this fall. Did you live in the area around the time of your acceptance or did you have to move to the area from somewhere else?

i did my prerequisites at clatsop, and live in the area. it is definitely cool to live within walking distance from school and 5 minutes from the hospital. i don't have much to say about clatsop...if you've attended before then you might have an inkling about how unorganized and frustrating it can be...this is rural nursing at its 'finest.' anyhow, congratulations on your acceptance, you will be in school with a couple of my friends and pm me if you have any questions!

I don't know anything about CCC. I took all my prereqs at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. That is about 30 minutes from down town Portland if you don't know where it is.

We are relocating so that I can attend. It is the only school I applied to. I feel I got super lucky with only applying to 1 school this year and getting accepted. I actually didn't think I was going to get accepted.

Should I be worried about attending Clatsop CC for nursing school? I'm a little nervous. I think that would be for any place I would have gotten accepted to.

You shouldn't worry about it. This is just me having a meltdown as we get to finals week and being on allnurses instead of studying ha ha! You are blessed to be able to bring your family with you. I was going to school and working on prerequisites for 2 years while my husband lived in Alaska, and I know how it is to want something to work so badly you'll do almost anything to get there. Astoria is gorgeous and if you don't mind the rain everything will be great! Do you plan on working at all while you are in school? What does your husband do? Will you live in Astoria or a nearby town? If you have any questions I've lived in the area for a total of 12 years I might be able to help, feel free to email me. You are going to have a blast in the Nursing 50 course, or at least my buddies that did it last summer say so.

I am super addicted to this site now. I used to fart around on myspace instead of studying for finals. Hehehe, cuz that was just so much better than studying.

Rain doesn't bother me at all. I have lived in Oregon for pretty much my whole life. I lived in Washington for 3 years, but thats still the PNW. The only thing I will have a problem with is the winter. I love snowboarding. I get up every chance I get in the winter. I know I will be missing out on that this upcoming winter and the next, but it is such a small sacrifice for such a great career.

My soon to be husband works for Goodwill in the maintenence department. He wont be able to transfer. More than likely I will move to Astoria/Seaside area by myself for a while. He will be living at his parents house for a while. The plan is for him to eventually move out there once he finds a job. So far there isn't much, but we still have some time.

We have checked out dailyastorian.com for places to live. We have a list going of apartment complexes and real estate places that rent. We are looking to start renting either at the beginning of August or September. August is a little sooner than we were hoping for but it might be cheaper than having to pay for a hotel out there when I take the NUR 50 class in August.

I did email the instructor for the class notifying her of my situation and emailing other students about possibly sharing a hotel room for the class. I haven't heard anything yet, so we will have to wait and see about that.

Right now I work at a pediatric clinic as a medical assistant. I love it. I do injections, ua's, hearing tests, all kinds of things. I plan on working up until about 2 weeks before classes start. I would quit August 1st at the earliest. I don't plan on working at all while going to school, unless I absolutely have to. My fiance did say that he may do some side jobs for extra cash so I think it will all work out. We keep telling each other that it is only temporary.

The only thing I am worried about is being seperated from him. We will be married for 6 weeks and be seperated already. I know he will only be a phone call away but we rely on each other so much. But I hope that I am just so busy I wont have to worry about him not being around at first.

It sounds like you have it all sorted out; that's great! You will stay busy and get lots of time for studying! There is one guy in my class whose family lives in Vancouver and he rents a studio apartment here and goes home on the weekends. It seems to be working out for him. I kind of know how you feel about the seperation thing; about 5 days after we got married my husband left for the east coast for 8 months. We 'reunited' right before I started nursing school. It's a military thing. Well, I wish you luck and I'm sure we will meet very soon. Small town :)

This is my third year of applying to nursing schools without any success so far. All of my pre-req's are done and I have a good GPA. Chemeketa is my last school to hear from this year and I pray that I get accepted.

All I can say to those who get a rejection letter, and who have the drive to become a nurse, stay focused and driven.

another note, is that you still can get rejected when you have 100% of the total points (minus the 5 points bonus for being on the alternate list from the previous year)......
