Would you change Orthopaedics for Liver Transplant Team?

Specialties Operating Room

Published

Hi there everybody, I need a bit of advise. I have been working in a 3 suite Orthopaedics OR for 1 year and 3 months. I now have the oportunity to move to a Liver OR (only 1 suite) and learn a different speciality. I am fed up with the "politics" of where I am now, but am a little afraid of going somewhere else so different. (what if it is worse!!)

Do you think the change would be beneficial?

Thanks you so much for your insight

i think learning something new is always worthwhile. of course, only you can find out if the problem politics is the same or worse in general surgery. frankly, i'm not fond of ortho, but to each their own.

One thing to consider is the call schedule. Always take that into account. The transplant can and will take part any time of day or night and you will be expected to be there, at least in most cases.

I am all for learning another area. Liver Transplant actually doesn't even fall under General Surgery in most ORs, it is a world of its own, and the staff isusually used only by that surgeon or group of surgeons. It also depends on the set up in your facility and how well that you like that group of surgeons.
