Silly Question

Specialties Operating Room

Published

I posted this in the Orthopedic section, but no one has answered yet. I posted on here before about wanting to start in the OR without doing Med/Surg. I found out the hospital I want to work at has new grad internships. Now here comes the stupid question. One of the positions is titled RN-Orthopedic/Surgical. There was no description. What I want to know is do you get to be in the OR with this title or is it strictly a bedside position? If you do get to work in the OR what do you all think about this compared to other OR specialties? Thanks for any answers. :chair:

Hmmm no answers still so either

A. This question is so stupid no one wants to answer it.

B. No one knows.

It sounds like a bedside position. You should check with HR to confirm.

Different hospitals can have slightly different titles and names for the areas of nursing, but I agree that this does NOT sound like an OR position. It sounds like an ortho floor, patients coming from surgery to this floor.

For example, I did one of my clinicals on an "ortho" floor at a hospital where patients came directly from the OR after having total knee replacements, hip replacements, etc. So yes, they were "surgical" and "ortho" but this was not an OR clinical, strictly bedside.

As the other poster said, you need to check with HR at the hospital.

I'm starting a new grad internship at my hospital's OR beginning this week. Why not check with HR to see if they have an internship for new grads in their OR?

Best of luck!

Most positions for OR usually state RN-OR. The RN-Orthopedic or RN-surgical sounds like it's for a bedside position on an orthopedic or surgical floor.

Thank you so much for your replies!

This sounds like a position on the med/surg floor--just doctored up to sound more glamorous.:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :balloons: :balloons:

My guess is that its strictly on an ortho floor that includes surgicals. Call em. Any internship for new grads is worth the experience.....nellie
