I graduated from an LPN school back when dinosaurs walked the earth ;) in 1972 and worked as an LPN from then until 91 and have recently been able to re-activate my license. While in nursing school we had an OR rotation and I really enjoyed it.

Also, one of my jobs was at a University Family Practice Center that had a minor surgery room and we did a variety of them. Then I went with my then FP Doc hubby (now x) to his private practice and worked mostly as his office nurse but we had a 35 bed hospital next door and was often called to help out with Out Patient Surgeries and those loooooong suturing events in the ER to free up the other nurses.

My question to all of you is; are OR's and Out Patient surgery's hiring LPN's? If so, what extra training would I need?

Thanks in advance for your reply

I don't think OR's are hiring LPNS nowadays, not in my area anyway. In my OR, I know 3 LPNS but they have been working here for 20+ something years, one is working as a surgical tech so I'm guessing she's had some kind of on the job training many years ago. Two LPNS are working as anesthesia techs.

Strange you should ask. Just today I see an ad in http://www.indeed.com for an LVN for the OR in the greater Los Angeles area. I did not read the ad but did see, that, of course, they want someone with experience.
